just wondering if someone could explain, or provide a link to an explanation, about the differences in the models for the 2nd gen rx7's.

my friend has an 88 turbo ii, and it's the only rx7 i have ever seen that is a 2 seater. Is this something different, or special?

the longer and more descriptive the explanation, the better. a link would be even better. thank you!

btw - i've been on alot of different message boards, i just joined nopistons about a week ago, and you guys rock. i have NEVER seen a message board that answers as readily and fully as you guys do.

Just a couple random things off the top of my head.

Series 4=1986-1988

Series 5=1989=1991

The convertible was introduced in 1987(or was it 88). The turbo model I know was introduced in 1987. Series 4's had the "rectangular" tail lights, lower hp numbers than the series 5's. The Series 5's came with the ever so popular "round" tail lights. I personally think they only look good when lit up at night. In 1991, only 3 models were made. The Coupe, Turbo'd, and Convertible models. None of that mumbo-jumbo GXL, SE,GTU,GTUs.

Oh yeah, in 1988 the rx-7 was named import car of the year. And I own an '88. Ha! What now suckas??

Hope this little bit helps.

http://www.mazda.com/history/rotary/g2-5.html A little about the history of all the rotary cars. Good read.

http://www.mazdatrix.com/faq.htm A good one also.

Oh, the s5's had higher compression rotors than the s4's. But I read that you want lower compression rotors from the s4's to deter detonation problems.
