One truck lasted 160,000 PROPANE ONLY kilometers with aluminum heads (GM 5.7L gasoline engine) before the heads broke free and.. well.. made disaster.



Diesel engines are another story for propane injection.. The flash point of propane is higher than diesel, but the ignition of diesel is enough to ignite the propane. With propane injection for diesel engines, there is no preignition worries. (Just wanted to point this out to everyone, Adam is right about the completing ignition process, because of the way it's flash point is utilized)



There aren't any diesel engines (that I am aware of, or have ever seen) that use aluminum components, because the compression ratio is so high..

I am really curious to know if the inside of the rotor housing is enough to prevent the damage..



I need more information myself on what exactly happens with combusted propane that ruins aluminum.



Anytime actual LPG would touch any hot surface, it would spell disaster, because it's so damn cold. You are injecting propane vapour (which FYI is very well atomized), because it vaporizes at -44 degrees. I'm curious if perhaps our work trucks didn't have safer type regulators that made sure what was being injected was vapour or if it could have had any LPG blowby or something?



One big concern with propane injection is that no liquid form EVER enters any part of the engine, only vapour.

Well, I am curious about the whole oil injection also. Would it be able to burn the oil in the the same manor that gasoline does?



If the oil can burn and your vaporizer works really well, it should not be a problem on a rotary.
