I just picked up another FC, 89 Turbo II, and I am debating wether or not to pull the AC and PS when I put it together in a week or so.

I have never driven a FC with a manual rack or depowered powered rack, but I don't own a car with PS ether. Same way with AC, Its been a few years since I have owned a car with A/C.

So what does everyone think? I would love to keep the engine bay empty and clean, the weight savings is a plus also.

if your already used to manual steering, then there isnt much of a point keepin the PS, and i've never really seen the point of A/C to begin with, if it gets to warm, that's what a window is for https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/happy.png

I ditched them both in one of mine. I was hesitant too.

I did it because I couldn't have fit the new intake and stuff with the pump and compressor on that side of the engine bay.

It's not such a big difference to be honest.

So what did you guys do for the rack? On my Miata I just looped the two lines together. Plug them off, loop the lines, or hunt down a manual rack?

Cheers! 12-22-2004 07:28 AM

keep the rack. the 89+ TIIs have the best power steering out of all the FCs. It is electronically controlled where as the other 89 NA cars are strictly speed sensing.

I dont know where all these people live that say ditch the A/C, but I would leave it

lets see your open window cool you off when your sitting in traffic and its 90 degrees out, never mind if it gets humid where you are.

as far as the P/S goes, maybe get a manual rack instead of just plugging the lines.

Keep resale in mind as well, cars that have not been butchered sell much faster.

nightwolf_4_98 12-22-2004 09:36 AM

unless your a pansy 90 degree's is nothing, in my first 510 i drove in 100+ degree weather, and the heater was stuck in the on position, now that is something that needs more then open windows https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/happy.png

you can be a man all you want, let me see you go to dinner or wedding or something with a date in your non-ac car when its 100 degrees outside and your sweating like a pig.

and if your heater was stuck open, why not fix it or at the very least loop the coolant lines going to the heater core?

Haha. I'm totally with Rob on this one. Try living here in Richmond, VA or points further south without A/C. Forget it. You will be wet and stinky and you will not have any friends. When it's 90-plus and the humidity is up, you will be hatin' life. No way I'd ever have a DD without A/C.

That being said, I pulled the A/C on my 7 right away, since it didn't work anyway, and it's basically a race car. More room, less weight = win, win.

So, in closing, it all depends how much you'll be driving this car in the summer.

because at that time i wasnt as mechanicly inclined as i am now, and i have done exactly that and thankfully i dont sweat easily so it works out ^_^ personaly i dont pay attention to the weather, hot or cold, unless there's ice on the ground or my arms are roasting because of the sun..
