You know how the stock clock in the fc's fade in and out all

of the time? Well I heard that if you re-solder the main terminals

on the inside it fixes this problem.. is this true?

Or has anyone else got a theory on how to fix it...

j9fd3s 03-14-2003 10:43 AM

yup, take it out and remelt the solder. you want to do it on the big ones behind where the connector is

yeah mines does the same thing so i just gave up and just use the clock on my receiver lol. it comes on like once and a blue like i had my car 7 months and i seen the clock light up twice for like 15 seconds and thats it. Its a ghost

j9fd3s 03-14-2003 11:52 AM

its about a 15 minute fix....

cymfc3s 03-14-2003 11:59 AM

make sure you get some soldering paste

see!!! flux works good!

j9fd3s 03-14-2003 12:42 PM

all you need to do it remelt the solder, you arent adding any new or removing any of the old

So, it helps promote a better connection.. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/blink.png

if you saw j9fd3s's soldering iron, youd unstanding that he needs more than just flux.

75 Repu 03-14-2003 01:32 PM

I kinda figured you guys had some issues about this topic... when you said "see!!! flux works good!"

The thing in question wasn't the clock..

if your remelting the solder you might as well change out all teh components. when i opened my clock/idiot light i noticed that a row of resistors was toast. I took a ohmeter and checked it and got infinite resistance.

I just took my clock/idiot module to an electronics shop and asked for 1 of every single component on the thing... came out to under 15 bucks cdn for me ... and i spent 1 day swaping old electronic cripsy components for new ones.

btw remove the flux after soldering... spray the board with contact cleaner... flux is corrosive

75 Repu 03-14-2003 02:39 PM

yeah and spray it with some electronic clear too if you want that way corrosion will definately not be present..

HAHA mine goes on and off when I hit bumps. If it bang the dash with my fist it will go on. Doesn't seam to keep track of time properly either.

its an easy 15 minute fix, just remelt the solder

my clock just died, it only works when this one certain thing is plugged into the lighter

serpent12 03-14-2003 09:19 PM

Thanks guys, ill have a go next weekend when Im home

serpent12 03-15-2003 08:56 AM

...Just another thought...

Does the light that shines through the key hole on the drivers

side door, run off this clock?

Cos my light only works sometimes when you pull the handle up?

Or is there some other way to fix this inconsistency?

i'm not sure what powers that, but there are a couple of things to look for. there is a little switch in the door handle, maybe yours is intermittant? or make poor contact? since the inside of the door is "outside" the bulb or bulb socket might have enough corrosion on it to only work sometimes?
