So as many of you will recall the thread a few days ago about my starter not starting. So I got another on from Vosko, and installed it. The car was perfectly fine for one whole day. Then yesterday morning, it wouldent crank again. This morning it started fine the first time, but it wouldent start the second time when I was coming back form getting breakfast.

What I've been doing is hitting the thing with a breaker bar, and that has worked thus far.

This is really really a problem. Two starters in Two days?!?! Is something else going on here? Perhaps the clutch switch or ignition switch?

Any insights? How do I test those two things? Please....this is my only mode of transportation, I cant keep worrying every time I shut her down if she will strand me somwhere.

Thanks,

-alex

what does it do when you turn the key? click?

yes, it just clicks. It does not do the regular starter noise. Only ONE click per key turn. Not a repetitious clicking. Then I hit it with a wrench a few times, and it starts. Or sometimes it just starts without problems.

bypass the clutch switch. its down on the floor, the pedal actually hits it on the way down

UPDATE:

Guys, I really need help on this one...I'm ripping my hair out here.

I did a search...as a result this is what I tested thus far.

Using the DMM - Pulled the little black connector on the starter. Checked for 12v when turning the key - Good. Checked for 12v at the relay by the trailing coil - good. Took off steering colom cover - no loose connections. L

Looked under dash, by clutch pedal to test clutch interlock - There were two switches there. Silvern on teh fron of the pedal, and a White one on the back of the pedal. See pix - The silver is attached, and white switch I'm holding in my hand.

I assums the white is the clutch interlock. If I hold in the plunger, and turn key, I hear the click. If I release plunger and turn key, no click.

I also checked the plugs by the engine bay fuse box - See pix. All seem ok - not melted.

I cannot figure out why this car wont start on me. Can it be possible that both these starters are bad?

other info:

new engine, new battery, new plugs, crane ignition.

PLEASE HEP me!!! this is my only ride, and I gotta get to work.

thanx.

it might be bad ?? my friend dave put in a brand new mazda starter and it did a similar thing. randomly wouldn't actually start would just click...... then try it again and it would start right up

I've had a lot of problems with Mazda starters in the past, so that may be an issue. Have you tried hot-wiring the starter a couple times (bypassing the solenoids) to see if it works?
