Starting re-running all my fuel lines, and need the best way to cut that line so my fittings will turn out nice. (without the braid fraying)

Any ideas??

TYSON 09-15-2003 01:48 PM

I wrapped it tight with electrical tape and cut it with a cutoff wheel on a little dremel tool I have.

Tried the hacksaw it sucked.

Best way is with a Beverly Shear. You can do the tape/cut-off tool method . Or use the tape sharp chisel metod. Or my favorite:

Mark your pieces and take them to a hydraulic shop to be cut

When you guys put these lines in do you use a special fuel filter or are there adapter fittings to fit these lines to the stock filter?

Some people use hose clamps around the braided line onto the nipple, but I think that's ghetto, and not really how the hoses are meant to be used.

TheCamel 09-15-2003 03:38 PM

Wrap the braided line in tape a 1/2 inch to an inch from the center of where you want to cut the hose, mark the center of tape (your cut line) and use a high speed rotary cut off tool or a metal cutting blade. Before inserting the fitting into the hose spray down with a light coat of WD-40 or other light oil. Have fun.

Duct tape worked best with me, holds it tighter with out strecthing from the heat. Less sticky mess than the electrical tape

so how did you connect the SS braided hose to the hard lines at the tank then?

Braze fittings on the hard lines

what do you mean braze??

i got a couple of these fittings it's for 3/8 line, but no one makes adapters for 5/16 line. I figure I can flare it just a bit if I have too.

it's a 3/8" hard line to -6an male, no flaring

yeah i saw these fittings at DRE digging through their boxes, did it work well?

it's like a compression fitting on the hard line side, right?

this is off-topic, but are those holes in that crossmember stock on the fd or did you take a hole saw to it?

Jerk_Racer 09-16-2003 01:44 PM

yeah it's compression type. I'll be using it in a couple days so i'll let you know how it turns out.

Either way your gonna have to cut the pipe to get rid of the lip the stock hose uses.

Dramon_Killer 09-16-2003 04:04 PM

This stuff easy to do and worth it? I might do it to my supra, seems like a decent upgrade.

TheCamel 09-16-2003 09:40 PM

you may want to take a look at the lines currently on your car, and decide from there. If the lines are beginning to show rust or corrosion (road salt will eat through them over time) or the Lines will not meet the flow required for your next upgrade such as larger injectors or fuel pump then yes this is a very worthwhile upgrade

1Revvin7 09-16-2003 09:54 PM

I like that tyson, I think I might do something like that, or maybe just bigger steel hard line..

banzaitoyota 09-17-2003 07:00 AM

You can also use a swagelok type firtting to adapt from the hardline to the AN lines
