Hey. I want to replace my air box with a K&N and im gonna try and make the mounting out of whats left of my standard air box. I would love to know how any one else has done it. Its a cone style filter that i want to mount. I also am thinking about replacin the intake hose from the air sensor to the turbo. i have inquired about a new one but they cost the earth in New Zealand so i might make my own. Just want in some advice about the right way to go about it.

thnx

Cold air intakes have to be custom done on rx7s really...and even the regular intake kits cost way more then they should. Just get some prebent tubing and cut a hole through to the front of your car(in front of the radiator) and mount the filter there...I know this is brief, but I havent done it so I dunno what it takes and where to cut...but its the best location for colder air.

I made a custom TID from the local hardware store for under $20. It increased my boost by about 1 psi.

Thnx for the replies. mountin in front of the radiator seems to be a good idea and there is plenty of room there. Thnx guys and i liked the pictures

ya mine's kinda custom though :yum: lots of work

or you could cut right into the bottom of the stock location filter and take out the windshield washer resvouir and put the filter right in the brake vents, i have been contemplating this......... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

Here's the easiest and cheapest, unless you already bought the air filter, anyway send it back.

Buy the ractive, it comes with a mounting plate all you have to do is bolt in, I can't remember if you have to drill any holes in it or not; either way, bolts right to the afm.

If you want cut out any obstuctions to allow more airflow and of course remove the clear 'flash to pass' lens.

Unless you hack some of the radiator support away, no way is air going to come in the flash to pass hole.

If I move the intake in front of the radiator, how does the afm fit in to the picture? Do I just leave it where it is and add a pipe from it to the filter?

Also, are there aftermarket AFM's that improve flow?

I want to do this. Can you tell me just what exactly you bought with your 20 bucks? PVC pipe? Aluminum rain gutter? Irrigation pipe? Threaded iron pipe? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/dunno.gif

Let's see, I bought about 3" of 3" ID PVC, a 3" to 3" rubber coupler, a 2" to 3" rubber coupler, a 3" PVC 45 degree bend, and a brass 1/8 - 27 npt, 7/32 hose barb. I've got my AE all ripped apart right now, so I'll try to get a pic. up soon. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/BURNOUT.gif

if you take out the FTPs and cut the rubber seal that goes around the front of the hood you will get some better ir flow. the air will go over the radiator support and get in there. also you could run some tubes to right in front of the ftp holes to get some more air in there
