so, the rebuild i've been working on for forever, cuz i've been away at school is finally in the car, and i'm trying to start it. It cranks really hard, but won't turn over and start. Any suggestions? I'm trying to make a list of things to check to try to find out what's wrong.



-drain the gas, and put new gas in the tank

-shoot the timing

-test to see if there's a spark

-buy new fuel injectors and see if they are the problem (hence why it's on the bottom of the list)



any other ideas?

check compression, battery, fuel, spark, connections to sensors, then check for flooding.

When you get to the sensors:



The most vulnerable connector is the one for the CAS.



It it starts, then quits, then check the AFM connector.

it's a new battery, the compression is good. thanks for the advise. Flooding would mean bad injectors, if it floods after i pull the plugs and crank it to clean it out. right?

Come to find out, flooding is not just bad injectors only. It has a lot of factors, low compression, fuel injectors, also when the ECU has not been warmed up or should I say the engine, it will continue spitting fuel into the engine. So thats why people get flooding when they just move their cars out of the drive way.

yes, but before that you should disable fuel and spark. easiest way to do that is unplug the cas and fuel pump.... or you can just leave the plugs in and unplug the fuel pump. crank engine until all fuel is burned. then plug back in and start it up.

vaccum leaks are the number 1 cause of flooding

I had a similar problem except my car was runing "ok" then it randomly wouldn't start.

I took every thing off, made sure all the vac lines and electrical connectors had places to go or if they didnt and wern't needed were out of the way.

Had some known good plugs and wires, tested for spark and that the injecotrs wern't leaking.

Checked if there was fuel pressure.

uh, made sure no fuses were blown.

damn, hope its not a vacume leak. I just saw in the timing article that it is supposed to be 5 degrees retarded, i thought it was advanced because of how it is abriviated in the FSM. I'm gonna go reshoot the timing cuz its almost turning over, and see if it helps. Otherwise, i guess i'll start looking for a vacum leak.



ps, where would be the best place to pick up some 550 and 720(max volume for the stock computer right?) cc fuel injectors? just in case.
