1. Would a broken trans mount cause me to hear more gear noise than i should?

2. I know front wheel bearings arent supposed to be replaced, but what about rears. are they just like regular wheel bearings?

3. For that 'puttin miata gears in a FC tranny' thing, do you switch all the guts, shafts and all, or just some of the stuff?

Not a question, but I replaced my terminals on the battery wires tonight, and the difference was like night and day. i highly reccomend it. that leads me to my final question.

4. What does the battery tie down look like? i think i have half of one in my room.

I don't know the answer to any of those. So how are things going with you?

vosko 10-23-2002 11:06 PM

1. NOPE YOU WILL HEAR BANGING https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

2. rears can be changed i did mine on my TII just gotta remove the hub. then buy a bearing from pepboys. then have a competent shop press out the bearing and press in the new one

3. probably everything contact rob@pineapple https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

4. batter tie down is the a little bar that has two long metal hooks. if you can't find yours borrow one from a junk yard https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

Couple o' more

1. Will a FD diff (stock) fit into an FC at all?

2. Since rotarys have gears inside the engine (stationary?) could they make gear noise? this is theoretical BTW.

3. uh, thats all.

1. NO! a FC diff is stronger anyway https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

2. yeah you could break a bearing its very rare though... only turborotor ever did that LOL

3. ok

1. probably, but why man?

2. yes, rev engine over 12k rpm

3. soylent green

the miata gears in an n/a fc case, is easy. you take the case apart, and put the fc input shaft, on and put it all in the fc case.

I thought FD diffs were good (torsen?). I have an open diff so anything is better than what i have now.

Also, are there a lot of FC parts that are stronger/better than FD parts? So far the list is: differential(sp?) and coils.

I've changed my rear bearings twice now, they don't seem to like donuts very much... you can change them yourself relatively easily if you purchase a 'hub shark' it's basically a screw with some cylinders and discs... it helps to have an impact gun too. Last time I didnt have the hub shark around so I used a sledge hammer and some cylinders from a ball joint press kit that I have, it didnt take much longer than using the hub shark... just looked scary https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png neighbors don't like seeing people in suburbia swinging sledge hammers at aluminum suspension components braced in wood blocks in the front yard...

Fock 'em, they'll never understand... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Oh, and BTW, you can change front bearings. I did it. There's a FAQ running around here somewhere.
