i had to tight the ALT. belt for the like 6th time... i'm getting sick of it and i need help... are any of you having this same problem?
Is getting loose on you? The altenator is travelling or the belt stretching?
Do you have a dual underdrive pulley?? They are slanted a little bit so one would be looser than the other. As far as your timing, impossible that its the reason your belts are looser. Just make sure you tighten the bolts.
i'm almost more then sure that the alt. isn't moving... but i will mark it so i can get an better look at that. and is blowing flames bad for your car at all?
it's a vbelt right? because the serpentines get eaten up if the pulley has notches and things on it from being banged up, just take a file to it https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif
Everything is stock and by file do you mean like wire brush maybe? and are you talking about the alt. pulley?
When the belt is off, can you spin the alt. pulley freely with your hand? Don't those things have a bearing in them that could fail? I really don't know.
Have you looked over the entire path that the belt travels through the engine bay, to make sure nothing's rubbing against it? I'm just guessing here. |
Have you checked the alignment of your pullies, like you were told to the last three times you posted this?
use sandpaper on all the pulleys.....my car ate 4 belts before i realized they were notches on the pulleys
same belts since! |
yes... the alt belt spins freely... its more of a stretching thing .... i tighten it down not so tight, and about 2 weeks later i have to tighten it back down. its so gay but now i'm smelling the belts burn so i'm going to try the sand paper idea. and i would try to check the alignment but how would i go about doing that... with string? or... some sort of straight edge?
What kind of brand belt are you using?
You should put some tension on the belt, not supper tight but you not be able to deflet more than an 3/4 inch with your thumb pressing on it with good pressure. On the longets part. Try another brand belt. I have seen belts that just stretch and stretch |
i'm not sure what brand... you'd think i'd know what it was because i've made about 5 trips to autozone to get belts.... but maybe i will try that next... does it matter if its got the ribbs or if its flat what ever? (the bottom side)
if you smell the belt you are over tightening,
if it keeps getting loose your doing something wrong like not making the bolts tight enough. If the pulley was shot you would eat the belt up, or it would keep working for a while, but it probably wouldnt loosen |
go to advance auto/discount auto and use the Top Cog belts, a lil more expensive but less prone to stretchin and lasts longer https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif use to work at advance auto https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683664.gif

remove ur airpump and gut the cats, get one of the purrty pulleys made to eliminate the airpump, you know you want to spit the flames and gain a couple HP to boot anyways https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683473.gif
