heres the deal~ i have a 86 non turbo w/ no engine mods,98000 miles recently my low coolent light came on, but the coolent wasnt low, then i would drive and the temp would go up normally. when the rpms get to 2500-3000 and up the light/buzzer would go out. then yesterday coolent started to dissapear, and my temp went up(took appropriate actions) and now the light stays on almost all the time, and it seems that the coolent temp goes up alot faster,could someone help me trouble shoot this? is it the themostate stuck closed? or bad coolent sesor? its pissing me off and i dont want to ruin my car. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/sad.png

You've got good ideas. Also you might have a bubble in the system.

there's plenty of times that i thought my sensor was wrong, but it wasn't, turns out something else was broken (radiator cap, leaking radiator cap flange, stuck thermostat) is it just interment? Like if you were to pop the top of the radiator fill it to the brim... then start the car, does it still buzz? If so then I might suspect the sensor, but if it is intermittent, then something is goofy with your coolant system.

Yeah, my radiator is old and leaking coolant damn it. And my oil cooler is leaking too. Maybe the nut is just kind of loose, I know that the proper copper washer things are on there. :/

Lionhart::: well that's your problem, when your radiator needs coolant, it should create a vaccum and pull in some water from the coolant resovoir, but with the cracks it just sucks air in from outside the radiater, making your problem worse.



Find a radiator at a junk yard, they are a dime a dozen. (or like 30 bucks)

usually when the oil cooler lines leak it's from a compression fitting on the actuall line seeping, the only way to fix that is to replace them, i think www.corksport.com has a good price.

yeah i did that with the taking the radiator cap off and adding a 50/50 mix and the lights still going, im going to replace the cap and thermostate on friday when i get paid, because im a broke mugg

check your hoses too. I destroyed my 1st engine by the heater core hose blowing off...
