So i was driving.....starts getting hot so i pull over. i check coolant level and it is low. so i fill it up and it just runs out the bottom of the waterpump!! its like the thing blew the gasket out or something? how could this happen?

It has been leaking a little from that area, and i keep it topped off. just wondering what caused it so i dont ever do it again, or if this is a freak thing (thats what im assuming, havent closely inspected yet)

Most (all?) water pumps have a weep hole in the housing at the shaft, so when the bearing and associated seals fail, coolant leaks out of the hole. I suspect you need a new water pump.

seconded, it should be making an awful whining noise too.

i heard a whining noise sorta like a belt, but not all the time. guess im in store for a water pump. DAMN money sucking thing LOL

cdaleracer669 03-15-2006 10:40 PM

do i need just the pump, or housing and pump? also, is this something that i want to get OEM from mazda and not from autozone or another auto supply place?or all they all just the same?

Just the pump and gasket, aftermarket should do, well, also pick-up an oem thermostat and gasket while you're there probably some junk in it at this point, better safe than sorry.

you ust need the pump, i dont see any problem going to schucks or autozone, or napa, a water pump is a water pump...

I have a leak that looks like it's coming from behind the water pump, could that just be a gasket there? Assuming there is some sort of gasket between the pump and engine.

there is the water pump weep hole, the water pump to water pump housing gasket, and then the water pump housing to engine gasket.

Mine has begun leaking as well, just ordered all new gaskets and everything from mazdatrix. Came to 145.00 with 2 new belts.
