Ok i have read a ton of posts about this but damn it--my car losses collant every couple of days.if i get into it really hard she will start to over heat.i have no leakes anywhere--oil looks good,no smoke--and have flushed it out.do i have a seal gone out?

vosko 09-04-2002 12:00 PM

you can tell by the smoke usually. change the thermostat, make sure your clutch fan is good, check the water pump, try letting the car sit for a day or two. if its hard to start and smokes white . i'll show you a pic of my FD with bad coolant seals. its BAD

u think its bad coolant seals?

vosko 09-04-2002 01:19 PM

if its losing coolant meaning burning it..... def coolant seals :(

Turbo II 09-04-2002 01:23 PM

but there would be smoke if its burned? but then again maybe he justhasnt noticed it.

Check the water pump, thermostat, and fan. If it's boiling over from overheating you'll lose coolant and probably not notice it. Don't listen to vosko when it comes to coolant. He thinks that Liquid Plumber is better to use than antifreeze. :P

My car also loses coolant, I have to fill the tank about every week or so, however, i know what hte problem is, have you checked your heater hose? the one from the firewall near the UIM going to the drivers side of hte block? Mazda used crappy clamps, and the combo of that, heat, and oil that gets dripped on the hose can cause it to fail, frequently, mine was replaced recently, and it is already gooey, and leaking slowly, from where the clamp has cut into the hose (must get wormgear clamps soon)

Maybe you can give your car a Tidy Bowl man theme.

i too had to replace the same hose on mine. no one here in alaska, usa had a replacement so i had to use strait universal heater hose. so far so good tho. check the radiator good too. i was loosing coolant from there but i couldnt find a hole. so i had to rip it out and take it to the shop and hav it pressure tested. now its fixed and no more coolant problems.
