so far i'm about to be on my second set of sparkplugs in less than a month. i'm probably gonna be ordering new wires also. but the thing that gets me is how can i burn up sparkplugs so quickly? i know the car's running some what rich and i need to figure out how to adjust the tps (tried the method that uses 2 led lights and a paper clip but i never read anything, possibly didn't do it right). but do any of you have a clue as to why i could be burning up so many spark plugs aside from running rich? i have no mods other than a racing beat cat back.

Define burning up.

when i check them they're completely black. usually befor checking them i've got a lot of miss-fire. then i'll replace em with a new set and i'm good for a couple of weeks to a month.

They turn white you burn 'em. Black means you're running pig rich. Get that TPS fixed!

ok, well once again i was wrong. anyway, what would i do to adjust the tps? i did that checker thing with the 2 leds but for some reason i could never get it to work. if someone could post a picture of the conector that i jump and the conector that i put the leds in that would be great. well anyway, thanks for the input eitherway.

Setting the TPS

If you are running fat (meaning rich) then you may need a 02 sensor Does your car flood a lot?...if so your fuel injectors may be leaking.

i was told i need a new o2 sensor but before i could do that i should getting the exhaust replaced because it'll just mess up the o2 sensor. i've got a couple of exhaust leeks in the manifold. the car has flooded a bit, i think. i'm not too sure but my oil tends to smell like gas some times. today the car wouldn't stay running, if i'd give it gas it would die. i got new spark plugs and started messing with the tps screw alittle bit untill the car stoped ideling funny and dying out. but now when i'm holding stedy at any rpm it back fires constantly. i really need to get this car fixed cause i need it for work (unfortunantly i deliver pizzas in it, wasn't my first choice of employment but it happens i guess).

I hate to say this but I'm pretty much at whits end with this car. I've put so much money into it over and over and over again. I havn't even rebuilt the engine yet and I think I've spent more than $4000 on fixing it in the past 2 years. Tomorrow I'm gonna try again to fix it but as soon as I can this car will probably be gone... or completely taken apart (what I origionally wanted to do with the after I got some money to buy a second car).

But anyway, I was working on it again tonight and I was adjusting the TPS by turning the screw slightly then reving the engine and all I got was 'bog-down, pop, pop, pop, bog-down/almost die out'. I was doing this for probably an hour with no avail. I'll try the fuel filter tomorrow and see what that'll do.

******* with the tps sensor randomly is a good way of making things worse.

go find a friend or a store with a cheap multimeter and set it so it meets the factory resistance settings. with that set perfect, you can narrow down the list of things that might be off.
