I originally planned to buy a reman and just swap the engines but I opted to rebuild the enigne myself. I figured I would just get it streetported by a local rotary shop but i go there today and they said I won't get my housings back until May!!! It's been like 5 months already and I can't wait another month. I'm thinking I should port it myself.

How many hours does it usually take to port a tII eninge? I'm fairly good with my hands and I think right now, I'm leaning towards using the templates that mazdatrix sells to minimize error. Has anyone used them before? What do you think of these? Are there any better ones available?

My main concern, however, is that I have to pass emissions. I have a big ass cat in my room that I'm gonna weld into the and old down pipe. It doesn't really matter how long it lasts b/c I'll only use it to get the car tested then take it right off. Would I be able to pass emissions with such a setup?

Thanks

Its not hard to rebuild the motors, but you will need a factory manual....and for god sake https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...O_DIR#>/11.gif don't use Mazdatrix/Racingbeat templates for a turbo motor, those are only good for N/A's....Also if your still using a stock ecu you only want to go with a "street port"....To much taken out will be to much overlap and oem ecu's can't read it correctly...

That rotary shop probably isn't doing any of the work and jobbin it out...Nice! Get that stuff back, get a manual and go to town

I figured since the engine is out I might as well port it a little bit. But are there any templates I can buy for a TII? I don't have the funds to buy new housings. I have a set of old housings to practice but it's still good to have something guide me, especially for my first time porting an engine.

I think they port the engine themselves. They had 5 other porting jobs to do before mine.

I'll check with my Puerto Rico connection on templates....They also claim not to use Mazdatrix turbo templates......Let me check and I'll PM you....coool?

are you talking about A-Spec tuning?

rmaiersg 04-03-2003 12:15 PM

Yep, that's the place. And whiplash, that sounds good.

pengaru 04-03-2003 02:39 PM

A-spec don't do their own work, papasmurf had his fd motor rebuilt there, it was expensive and they just sent the motor out to have it done. You're better off DIY if you ask me.

they took a long ass time too.

Alright, thanks.

whiplash 04-03-2003 06:44 PM

ahhhh, thats what I thought...You gotta be real careful who you trust when it comes to engine building because most of those shops don't do anything....They just send it to M2 or RP.... My buddy from Chicago builds awesome motors....He's from Puerto Rico so he claims they do everything right the first time https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png ya know, he's probably right too..
