after changing plugs, removing air pump, replacing the rest of the gaskets around the turbo since i replaced cats w straight pipe, she was idling low, and stalled when i got off gas upon hitting some traffic....elect. was ok...starter and bat too....oh, my "mechanic" also pulled out my air filter and associated crap....so she would crank but not turnover....pulled efi fuse, thinking then i might have flooded her, cranked some more...nuthin....finally, bout 40 min later after 2 st troopers on the gcp pulled over...the second who had a tII, but only said "sounds like your block and seals are shot" (to which i wanted to tell him @#$$@*&) she started right up, only the tac was dead, and still a dangerously low idle......what did we do to my baby to desrve this? timing? why did it suddenly start? by the way, fuel pump is fo sure ready to be changed...1st thing on the agenda....but it's not adding up to me....but hey...i'm a moron. also, i recently put in a act 6 puck and my "mechanic " thinks now i need rear end bushings of some kind cuz she bangs like hell ...kinda feels like rear is about to pop out esp. when lettin off gas after driving hard...also said my massive vibration isnt cuz i need balancing, but because now i've killed my u joints? make sense? thanks...help please...i'm starting to feel overwhelmed e

Sounds like it was flooded. Try adjusting your TPS, that may help your idle. If not there is a idle adjustment screw on the BAC valve. If your U joints are going out you have to replace the whole drive line, because Mazda didn't make the U joints removable. A drive line shop might be able to retrofit your drive line with U joints that can be removed. I hope you have some fuel mods done if you are getting on it hard with full exhust, otherwise start saving your $$ for a new engine.

if you are not getting a tach signal your spark wires aren't on all the way probably

I've had my tach stop working after just pulling the EGI fuse. After turning the car off, then back on it started working. I don't tink it does that anymore though. Weird.

Etrannyc1 lives in my town and i'm gonna try to help him out, so i'll keep you guys posted on this

I have no idea how to pull error codes off on an S4 though, so maybe you can help me there. I also need to know if the TPS for the S4 is the same as an s5, so i can just adjust that with an ohm-meter/DMM (which I do with mine and it works well)

good point with the spark plug wires vosko, I had that happen to me, i just simply forgot the trailing wires

no egi fuse = no spark

no spark = no tach

alot of mechanics who dont know any better adjust the TPS

THINKING its a idle adjustment.

When I had the AC charged on my GXL my mechanic friend thought he was adjusting the idle a bit, I was driving the car home and it all of a sudden ran like crap, then it wouldnt start, then I limped home. The TPS does look like a idle adjustment to someone who doesnt know any better. Maybe he did that?

LOL! I know. I meant after unflooding the engine, putting the fuse back in, and starting the engine, the tach wouldn't work. I figured that people would have picked up on the " After turning the car off, then back on it started working."

That is exactly what I am thinking Mr. Rob.

@cabrio

I am also going to try to show this guy how to use a computer, I just called him and spoke to him on the phone, nice guy.

I also still need a response on how to pull error codes on a S4 without buying a check light

PS my car wont be stock after saturday
