My new baby is coming in tonight: '88 Turbo II. The guy who sold me the car said the compression is bad and the car is not driveable.

My brother had asked me the random question of what kind of oil it uses. I asked the guy. He tells me 20W50.

I talk to the guy I'm buying a new J-Spec motor from, all HE does is buy/sell 2nd gen's, and he says that 20W50 is WAAAAAY too thick and that I need to be using 10W50.

Do you think that the guy using 20W50 oil is the reason why he killed the compression on the motor? He only drove it for like 2 weeks he said, before the compression died. If I were to just to a simple oil change with some 10W50 oil, is it possible that if the seals aren't gone, that it might fix it?

It sure would be nice to fix that motor and then have this J-Spec motor too. I could part out the motor in the car now, and then pop in that J-Spec and at least make some money, or have a backup...heh

Help meeeeeeeeeeeeee!!! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/ohmy.png

20w50 is fine for a warmer climate. It has low compression because he blew the motor from either running lean, too hot of an air intake charge, or bad timing. You need a motor rebuild. Pm BDC he could do it for you if you feel its too far over your head.

Well at least I've got this nice FRESH J-Spec motor with only 35k on it...

Yeah...the guy is from Texas, so 20w50 oil really wouldn't have been bad for him to have had in the car? He said it was because of the fuel pump. The guy HE bought the car from "said" he had a Walboro 255 in there, but after the motor died, and the owner checked, it was some POS fuel pump that wasn't even working right. So THEN he replaced it with a Walboro, but I guess it was too late cause he went ahead and sold it to me! ^_^

I'm so happy, I got such an awesome deal on the car and motor.
