i'm in the market for a new clutch, i'm looking at the act with the street disc, and hd pp, or the spec stage 3 6 puck

Cheers! 04-04-2005 05:01 PM

I got their +30% clamp clutch. They are rebuild exedy clutches I think. It was cheap enough, and i was broke at teh time. So far it has worked well. But if you like drag racing the disc will die quick.

banzaitoyota 04-04-2005 05:06 PM

I'll be running a 5.5" Quartermaster twin disc

nismo convert 04-04-2005 09:56 PM

let me clarify no twin discs and must be sprung lol

89 Rag 04-04-2005 09:59 PM

Puck clutch is hard on a DD.

nismo convert 04-04-2005 10:40 PM

well i have solid motor mounts, i have heard the stock **** rubber ones love to break. and it's sprung so i think it should do ok

UniqueTII 04-05-2005 01:30 AM

I have an ACT with the heavy duty pp and I love it.

1Revvin7 04-05-2005 10:21 AM

Act units work seem to work well.

Lothema 04-05-2005 11:04 AM

got me an ACT S/S and it treats me fine

1990gtus 04-05-2005 07:33 PM

Dual Center Force.

FCmaniac 04-05-2005 07:57 PM

Clutchmasters for four years and still holds good

Black8 04-05-2005 07:58 PM

In my past FC's, I ran a SS/HD Mazdatrix setup...man...it really was hard on the shitty stock mounts....I had a Centreforce DF on my stock 12a FB, man that thing was a piece of ****.....swapped in a Mazdatrix SS setup when I got the 13B streetport and all was good.....If I ever have to get another clutch it's gonna be a Mazdatrix setup....

1988RedT2 04-06-2005 08:55 AM

Dragracing the stock clutch. It's only a matter of time.... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683785.gif

nismo convert 04-06-2005 10:15 AM

how is your stock clutch not slipping? i run some where around 12 and it slips like a mother.

Beats me, but it does. I would get nasty wheel hop with street tires. With the BFG drag radials it launches nice and hard with no wheelspin and no noticeable clutch slippage. I assume it's stock. Maybe the P.O. swapped it out?

nismo convert 04-06-2005 11:41 AM

i have a light weight fly wheel thats the only difference, but that shouldn't make mine slip

SPD Racing FC 04-07-2005 04:53 PM

RPS or centerforce DF

theflatlander 04-08-2005 09:52 PM

Been running a 9.5lb flywheel with the ACT HD/ 6-puck solid hub clutch for over 7000 miles now and will never go with anything less.

Apollorx7 04-10-2005 04:11 PM

I had a centerforce duel friction and I hated it. My friend has a spec stage 2 in his MR2 and it kicks ass. I plan on getting one later.

venomrx7 04-11-2005 07:08 PM

I've never heard a good word about centerforce. I've heard of some dangerous things happening with them though.

ACT seems to be the top notch company for clutches.

a puck clutch will be like a light switch on a DD. it will either be engaged, or disengaged. irritating as hell, and dangerous on wet roads.

Wait till the first time you need to make a turn, while taking off from a stoplight, in the rain.... heh...

drftk1d 04-13-2005 08:29 AM

whats the difference between sprung and unsprung?

nismo convert 04-13-2005 02:15 PM

sprung allows you to ride the clutch, unsprung is like off/on, and in reverse really sucks monkey testes. and like venom said in the rain would be brutal.

yeah. I drove a 92 rustang for a few months with a supercharged 351 and a 5 speed, unsprung 6(I think) puck clutch.

not fun on wet days. I came close to getting in so many accidents that I lost count.

I'm glad they have worked out for somebody. I have heard things and seen things with centerforce clutches that have made me never want to get one. Like slinging to peices and lodging 3" longs chunks in the tranny tunnel guard....

Thats good, but the general consensus on centerforce products is still negative.... I'd still choose an act any day of the week.

drftk1d 04-20-2005 11:31 AM

anything good about exedy clutch?
