Just got done changing my clutch. BigTurbo74 and 1Revvin7 Helped me a shitload, thanks a ton guys, but I am having a couple problems. Now that everything is back together I took her out for a spin, the clutch works fine, but I am not getting full boost anymore, and I can hear oil boiling in the motor when i shut the car off. I couldn't actually hear it boiling before. The boost feels just like a vaccume leak, but we made sure everything was tightened up and it still lags out, so I have no idea what it is. I just started it to pull it in the garage and it also Idled really rough for a couple secs and almost killed, but picked back up and idled fine. I think I still have a very very very small exhaust leak, its a **** hair louder than before. Basically I need to know:

1) why I am not getting full boost

2) why can I hear oil boiling so loud now when i turn off the car?

Help would be great https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/sad.png

boiling oil? Are you sure your not just hearing coolant moving around in the system? It makes that bubbling sound when its hot/expanding.

Power loss: If you think you have an exhaust leak or hose off somewhere grab a spray bottle of water, and spray it around the area of the leak'g...Sometimes the idle will change water is sucked into the vacuum system...

.... Let me know

Did you drop the tranny or move the motor when you did the clutch? just trying to what might have been missed

roadkill669 10-13-2003 07:22 AM

I blew my oil injector vaccum hose while driving. It did kinda the same thing your car is doing, so I would assume that it would be a vaccum leak somewhere. Thank god i'm running premix.

Do you have the twin scroll system? If so, my car did something really wierd when I put my boost controller on it. It would turn the twin scroll off when driving so I would only boost 6 or so. Then at idle, it would try to die, then pop back up and sound a little louder. Probally has nothing to do with your car though.

1Revvin7 10-13-2003 07:23 AM

Now that I think of it that bubbling sound had to be coolant, we did take off that bac coolant hose. The car is down on power, has to be a vacuum leak we missed..

ok well im gunna go over the whole thing again. It was too hot last night to work with so Ill go over all the hoses this morning and hopefully I can find the leak.

thanks guys

Ok went over everything, heres what I found: There was two bolts on top of the bell housing that were just threaded in, but never tightened, one of which had the ground for something, maybe the starter? Anyways I tightened those up, I also found a two bolt flange on the exhaust that only had one boly put in, and it wasnt tightened, went to the hardware store and picked up a bolt, nut, and lock washer for the other side, bolted that up tight. Went over all the hoses and found one small hose from the IN pipe that was loose, so I replaced the hose and tightened that up, couldnt find any other leaks anywhere. Drove it and I STILL can't hit full boost, the car feels like it has half the power it used to. I honestly think a v6 mustang could kick my ass the way its running, thats how slow it is. Oh and whiplash we dropped the tranny when we did it. I dont know what else to do. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/sad.png

My car felt the same way when there was air in the cooling system.

TII777 10-13-2003 12:44 PM

I think thats gotta be it. I hear bubbling when i shut the car off, and so I wouldnt be surprised if that was the change. I never used to be ablt to hear my coolant like that. What did you do to get the air out?

UniqueTII 10-13-2003 01:13 PM

There's a bleeder screw on the radiator inlet.

whiplash 10-13-2003 03:29 PM

Sounds like some vaccum line(s) are off OR not in the right place....That bubbling sound is air in the system....

call me and I'll help

If you suspect vacuum leak, measure vacuum at idle from a source after the TB, if it's low you either have a leak or have damaged something regarding compression. If vacuum is good, look elsewhere for your problem. Bad vacuum, check compression first, after confirming that it is good (this step avoids potential hair pulling) search for leaks with a stethescope or carb cleaner, propane works too.

regarding the coolant bubbling, it could be air in the system, but these cars usually make it known when there is air, because it ends up at the top of the radiator mostof the time, where the add coolant sensor is located. Test to see that this circuit is functioning (unplug the add coolant sensor, the buzzer should go off if i remember correctly) if it works, your car would be yelling at you about the air.

Is the car running hotter than before? This is usually the result of having air in the system, in addition to the headache the buzzer gives you.

UniqueTII 10-13-2003 04:00 PM

Speaking from experience with these exact symptoms, try my idea first.

TII777 10-13-2003 05:03 PM

ok the car does run a little hotter than before, not too bad though. I am going to try and bleed that air out and hope thats what it is. Brad Ill definately give you a call if the problems persist after i try this. Ill be seeing you in a couple days anyway so maybe you can drive it and tell me what you think.

mazdadrifter 10-13-2003 08:21 PM

sounds to me like you have a boost leak, like one of your intercooler hoses (or any pressure line for that matter ) isn't secured properly. I had a loose intercooler hose and it did the same thing. What might be happening is your turbo is majorly overspooling (trying to fill up a infinite amount of space due to the pressure leak) and is getting rediculously hot. And even on normal driving conditions this can heat your turbo to the point of boiling oil. I would remove all of your intercooler hoses, look them over and reinstall them being sure to tighten them down correctly. As well as removing the upper intake manifold and inspecting every vacuum line. This would account for your lack of boost problem. Do not get into the turbo hard again until this is fixed!!! Your going to break it!!! There is something wrong it and due to populaur opinion rotaries don't fix themselves by just driving them harder.

TII777 10-14-2003 01:58 AM

Im not driving it hard, takin it very easy, but yeah the turbo does spool to about 5psi extremely fast, but i dont really feel the power, then it just stays at around 5psi. Didnt get to checking the air in the cooling system, so ill go over all my hoses again tomorrow as well as check the bleeder screw on the radiator. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/wacko.png

Check the turbo inlet duct. It could of slipped a little when tilting the engine up and down putting the tranny back. Usually pops or cracks a little where it meets the inlet to the turbo.

You sir are dead on..

BigTurbo74 10-15-2003 10:02 PM

guess what,,,, your engine.... IT'S FUCKED! hahah

one thing i don't understand, how the **** would being 5oz. low on coolant affect your performance or boost???
