As the title says, I've been having some problems with my clutch pedal on my 87 n/a project car.

We've replaced the slave cylinder and clutch but neither of those were the problem. It seems that when the clutch pedal is depressed, it doesn't have enough push to come back up. Also, if you leave the pedal depressed for long, the clutch fluid leaks out and needs to be replaced. This clutch issue makes the car drive slower than hell with a bouncy feeling from the tranny as if a new-to-manual driver is in the car. Sometimes, the clutch doesn't even come back to the top after you let off of it.

Does anyone know what I should do?

I've thought about replacing the master cylinder and bleeding the lines.

I've also decided that if this doesn't work, I will replace the entire transmission this winter.

She's a work in progress so leaving it unrunning isn't a problem. Advice?

Sounds to me like the master cylinder is going but bleed it really well and check fluid as you are bleeding to prevent running low and introducing more air. If it continues to do the same thing replace the Master and put a new line preferably stainless steel braided. If you go with a stainless steel one make sure you have a good engine ground or else when trying to start the car with a bad ground the starter will try to ground through the stainless line and set it on fire.

i had the same problem just a couple of months ago. at first i was very worried. i figuered out it was a 35 dollar mastercylinder. then you have to exstensively bleed the clutch. at first you wont think it is working, but if you have a bleeder tool it will work. write me back if you have any questions.
