Ok, I've heard about aftermarket Oil Pressure gauges being installed to replace the stock. How did you mount them? Did you remove the original? Also, did anyone fully integrate the gauge into the dash, or do you just remove and install a block off plate to cover the hole. It doesn't look right being redundant with 2 gauges, IMHO.

Thanks

Rob x-7 12-11-2003 07:09 PM

I used the RB adaptor block and installed the gauge under my radio.

I did not want to modify the cluster and I actually like having

2 oil gauges.

Pics can be seen on my page

i saw one s5 with an hks boost guage in the factory cluster, as the s5 has 46mm holes so it fit, i dunno whats going on in the back of it though

I made a plate to bolt over where the vents are in the center section. I don't use the AC so I don't mind having them gone. Since that piece pops out it is easy to modify. I cut out the center leaving just the diameter and then cut a piece of sheet metal to fit it and affixed the two together. The first one I made I just drilled holes and installed the guages, but the second one I did I decided to put a lip on the holes to make the guages more heads up. I got this idea from ILUVMY88CABRIO.

This is a pic of the first one I made.

UniqueTII 12-12-2003 12:02 PM

Those are some nice looking installs! I did one like sunshine's in my friend's S5 TII that came out decent, especially considering I was just messing around with a Dremel when I did it.

i have a panel that replaces the glovebox door with 3 60mm greddy gauges in it. I really don't have a very good pic of it, but use your imagination on this one.

Does it still open and ****? Is it difficult to read the gauges from there?

GarageBoy 12-12-2003 03:40 PM

Luckily, no airbags, otherwise, OWW

Anyone have the orginal gauge removed and a block off plate fitted to cover the hole left over?

Rob x-7 12-12-2003 07:13 PM

He got the handle from me. You can get it from any 89-91 with a leather interior.

rob - is that a general JDM momo steering wheel, or is specifically for the FD? i've seen them on ebay, and my steering wheel looks like crap. i want one, and i'm planning on getting a cheap momo wheel off of ebay and finding an rx7 wheel hub for cheep to attach it.

RX7Aggie 12-12-2003 11:10 PM

No doesn't open so no glove box, its very easy to still read the gauges. Its the ones i read less though (coolant temp, oil temp, oil pressure) i keep the boost and EGT on the cluster

j9fd3s 12-13-2003 12:42 PM

heres the best pic ive got of mine, 52mm boost on the column. the e brak handle is team voodoo, and the leather boot is also for a miata

GarageBoy 12-13-2003 03:21 PM

Wow, looks nice! What goes under the radio, anyways?

Rob x-7 12-13-2003 03:43 PM

The steering wheel is JDM FD wheel, no hub required, direct bolt

on.

Ebrake handle is stock, boot is from someone I dont even remember

Shifter boot is new OEM Mazda.

Sled driver pedals, Voodoo engraved shift knob.

The radio fills in the entire space, except in the 89-90 GTUs. The GTUs has a little 1.5 pocket under the radio. I bought one to put under my radio, but I had to trim it to fit.
