I am wondering if any of you have removed your charcol cannister and what exactly do you do with the lines that come out of cap them off? Any one found Ill effects caused by removing it?

I don't have it. You can kinda smell gas sometimes. Other than that I have not noticed anything bad. I think I just left the line from the tank open, I can't remember what I did with the other lines. Reason I pulled mine was because one of the plastic nipples broke off.

i dont know if i would cap the lines there purpose is venting out the fumes. Why do you want to remove it anyway?

I have removed it, and I have had no problems at all.

tank fumes are collected in the cannister and recycled..

part of the evaporative emissions system..

there is also a vent to atmosphere hose at the bottom of the cannister....

imho...i dont see a need to remove it for notions of weight reduction..

as it weighs ounces...and the purpose of uncluttering your engine bay..

as you can relocate this fairly easily...

no offense to those who have done so but this is an example of oversimplification..

lol I knew at leat one person would ask "why do you want to remove it?" but sidewinder beat me to to it https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png Its not for weight savings at all, if I cared about that I wouldnt have a stero or nice wheels! lol I just want as little as possiple under the hood it looks good un cluttered. Im thinkin if I wanted to I could move it up front where the W/S squirter bottle is in the fender but..........thats a little more trouble than I feel like. I will proably just end up venting that one line under the car some where

cymfc3s 04-03-2003 01:10 PM

i dont know why youd want to remove it, its tucked away in the back and all the lines run along the firewall. Plus, the smell of fuel when you remove it is not something i take lightly. Just leave it be.

anyone considering removing the charcoal canister better already have the sub-zero tank gone https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/tongue.png

I left my charcoal canister in as it 's functional, weighs next to nothing, and doesnt get in the way whenever I work on the car.

relisys190 04-27-2003 09:55 PM

I broke my nipple of the top of the canister too (little nipple) i am going to remove it tomorrow, but which line do i vent to the atmosphere? the fat line? or the small line?

Also.. i removed the Cruise control too, wha should i do with the nipple on the engine (vac line to cruise unit) Should i cap it? or leave it open?

1Revvin7 04-27-2003 10:02 PM

The line on the firewall that goes from the gas tank to the charcoal canister s/b open vented when removing the canister. You can also open vent the other one that is on the oil filler neck, right? Cap the nipple for the cruise control.

FCmaniac 04-28-2003 06:45 AM

You can open vent the one on the filler neck but I put a mini filter on that... I still have my canister hooked up. The filler neck vent doesnt go to the canister. Right behind that on the block is another line which goes to the canister.
