so everyone talks about removing the "charcoal canister". what's this do exactly?

other updates on my car:

1. so after getting a good look on at the engine bay recently while changing my air filter, i realized the previous owner remove the air pump and ACV - sweet, less stuff for me to do.

2. so the front bushing change is complete...5 hrs later. wasn't that bad, although the upright didn't just "pop" out of the A-arm like the haynes said - liars. the polyeurethane bushings ride great, can't wait to do the rear.

3. new air filter. only $20 at vatozone, er, autozone and they come in 4 cool colors: red, blue, yellow, and crome. look just like K&N, and are a much better replacement for my HKS whose filter was disentigrating. i'm sure the filter alone would have been more than my autozone filter, yeah!

4. still waiting for the KYB shocks, and after i change those my A/C system is all coming out.

cool. the charcoal cannister takes the vapor out of the tank and filters it, without it you need to do something to keep from either having the tank leak or balloon under pressure

if you dont mind your car smelling like a go-cart or lawn mower every once ina while just take the canister out and vent the lines to the atmosphere. I extended the lines and vented them into the fender (there's a whole where the cruise control use to be) know what i'm talking about? I just vented into that hole and havnt had a problem yet. Just everyonce in a while if the wind is right i'll catch a sniff of gas.

Really no big deal and less crap to have in the engine bay.

Yes, I did have that problem. It's an easy fix with the dual alternator belt pulley.

or a yahoo belt like i have. cost 7$ at hardware store. it's a 22inch compressor belt.. take a little brain power to get it around the main pully/waterpump pully. but once it's on it wont come off unless cut.

I like relisys190's idea, I will instead route it to my fender....or somewhere under the car...

relisys190 05-11-2003 11:10 PM

yeah the hole in the fender (behind the cruise control i use to have) is a great place to vent.. it's out of the engine bay and i only smell it with a certain gust of wind.. come to think of it. havnt smelled it in a while..

go for it revvin.
