4.4 litres from one of those walmart castrol GTX jugs fits perfect in the car

RevRex-7 05-10-2004 01:12 AM

yeah, mine usually takes a little more than 4 when changing

Nan da yo! 05-10-2004 02:35 AM

****, i usually just put in 4 and a half... 3 is kinda odd. Did you jack your car up funny like when you drained your oil? My friend did that with his 240... jacked the car up on the opposite side of his drain plug (so his drain plug is lower than the rest of his car) when i saw what he was doing we got the car level and a bunch more came out.

Rob x-7 05-10-2004 07:27 AM

I have always got 5 in there, you changed the filter too?

I also crack open the filler cap while the oil is draining

and will punch a hole in the oil filter so that drains out

a bit before making a mess on the engine

cezonetheillest 05-10-2004 02:38 PM

i am ussually able to fit 5 quarts in there off of one of those big jugs of oil.

No I left it sit on level ground until it drained everything in the oil pan. The thing was that only about 3 quarts came out of the drain.

I waited about 4 hours after I parked the car to remove the oil.

how long did you guys wait?

Good idea, thanks for that.

Jims5543 05-11-2004 08:40 AM

I know this sounds stupid, but, did you run the car for a few minutes after you changed the oil and recheck the oil level??

I have always put 5 quarts back in.

Nan da yo! 05-12-2004 02:43 AM

5 quarts for me too! 3 is just odd... thats like Geo status.

rx7_re 05-12-2004 12:47 PM

Always do it when the oil is hot. Take it out for a good 20 mins and then change it right away. Thicker oil sticks to things like glue.

relisys190 05-12-2004 02:32 PM

It usually takes 4.5 quarts for me.

Also, just a little tip, just loosen the oil filter until you can rock it back and fourth just slightly without oil running out the sides. Doing this will also NOT cause a mess.

Also, change the oil just after a good run, maybe let it cool for about 20 min or so, changing the oil while the engine is hot allows all the thin, hot oil to drain properly.

ok. Thanks for the replys. I check my oil daily and its full. Next time I will change the oil with the engine hotter.

It just seemed wierd not much came out.

Thanks.
