The car usually when i start it runs up to 3k then slowly goes down to about 1200 and then once the temp guage jumps up it goes down to idle. Well its didnt today. I started it up it went to 1000 and then dropped to idle within 4 seconds. I checked to see if maybe something got nocked off or wasnt hooked back up but couln't find anything.

vosko 02-05-2003 01:50 PM

is it really warm outside ?

Seppuku 02-05-2003 01:53 PM

Its cool but not really hot, it used to always warm up regardless of the temp outside. Maybe it had a problem before and its fixed now?

j9fd3s 02-05-2003 01:58 PM

maybe the fast idle thingee slept in this morning?

I dont know ill go try and start it again and see what results i have.

vosko 02-05-2003 02:02 PM

my old GTU used to do it 95% of the time. sometimes it would just idle normal. as long as its idling you should be happy. i haven't seen an rx7 that likes idling https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

Seppuku 02-05-2003 06:06 PM

Well i went out and tryed it again before i left and it started up like normal this time but never dropped to idle. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/wtf.gif

j9fd3s 02-05-2003 06:07 PM

the thermal wax might be going bad, or the hoses are plugged

Seppuku 02-05-2003 06:10 PM

Damn guess i got to work on the car some more again. Ill never get around to modding it if it keeps breaking one part after another.

j9fd3s 02-05-2003 06:20 PM

thats why i recommend a ground up restoration

mike

Seppuku 02-05-2003 06:24 PM

It will probably have one by time im done with it.

Rob x-7 02-05-2003 07:04 PM

funny because I always tap the gas so it DOESNT run at 3000 rpms, lol

Now your sig lags my computer, you bastid!

Racer X 02-05-2003 08:53 PM

It might be the thermostat staying open?Tricking the car into thinking its warm already.

j9fd3s 02-05-2003 09:33 PM

oh actually there is a switch in the bottom of the radiator that basically tells the ecu to cold start it, and turn the emissions system on. the wires get pinched under the battery tray, or maybe the switch broke. it could be that too

Whats it look like i got to put the under panel back on tommorow so ill check it first. Another thing i noticed is the needle on the temp guage is sitting lower now. I dont know if its from the under panel being off, the sensor not reading right, or the new coolant?

j9fd3s 02-05-2003 10:00 PM

the sensor is in the lower left of the radiator, under the battery. its got 2 bullet connectors, can't miss it

Apex13B 02-05-2003 10:18 PM

if you think that the car is thinking its not cold..water thermosensor (shot in the dark here)

Travisty 02-06-2003 09:14 AM

yeah mine always jumps up to 3000 and then i tap the gas and it drops to 1500 till it warms up, then to 750 and idles perfect for the first time EVER, thanks to ITO.

CrazyAssRX7 02-06-2003 10:31 AM

My car is dfoin the same exact thing!!!

well before i put my new tranny im it would start up at like 3 k for like 20 seconds or so and when i put my new tranny in..... it doesnt do it anymore.....

i kinda liked it but now its quieter when im leavin at 3 in da morning and dont wanna wake up the whole neighborhood...

but is it a plug or somethin???

maybe a tempeture sensor

FCmaniac 02-06-2003 11:48 AM

You guys could do the TB mod and remove the thermowax assembly if you want. I guess the car will just warm up slower then.... I havent installed my modded TB yet so Im not sure of how it acts on start up.

Seppuku 02-06-2003 04:32 PM

well i checked the wires mike mentioned. The bottom one had come off a little but was still getting a connection i put it back on all the way and fired the car up still the same results. I got a picture of the temp guage just to show how low its sitting

Rob x-7 02-06-2003 08:58 PM

thats right where mine sits

Mine use to sit higher than that, i find it strange. Does your car have the under pannel on it?

Rob x-7 02-06-2003 09:23 PM

weird, second time I have to post twice,

My car has the panel, my aftermarket temp gauge confirms the car

runs at 160, and once or twice in traffic when it was hot and I had the A/C on it went up to 180.
