Hey...i think my s5 fc vert hates me or seriously wants me to dish out money that i don't have at the moment.....ok lets start from the begining but short story mode

First i bought this fc vert non running, i was told that the previous owner had messed with the distributor on it that's why it won't run ( i know there is no distributor)

Got the car home and after a few weeks of checking things out on it my dad replaced the trailing coil and it started up....lots of smoke came with it but he cut it off before letting the smoke clear some

since then havent been able to get it started.....and i've bought a different ecu, new spark plugs (even though it already had new ones), new plug wires.

just today i finished spending all day soldering in new connectors for the ecu since the ones that were on it had some oxidization on some of the plugs.....even then no start....

I have not been getting a spark......i have not checked for spark after i installed the new connectors but will be checking that tomorrow along with other advice that i get on here

the car has been sitting for about 2 1/2 years.....car will crank over but just won't start

oh another thing is....if you post something for me to try please give me a heads up on what to try next should that not work

i checked all the wiring in the car and all of it seemed to be in good condition other than the connectors that plug in the ecu

just had the same problem on the car i bought a little while ago. ur Crank Angle Sensor is probly misaligned or faulty. also since the motor has be sitting for a long time it could be carbon locked, does the motor spin if u turn the crank pully buy hand

Medicj02 08-26-2007 02:32 PM

do you mean turn the crank pulley with my hand or using a tool?

jwteknix 08-26-2007 03:10 PM

either or does it turn?

Check compression. You can use a conventional compression tester with the check valve removed. Look for even pulses, around 80-90 psi. Make sure you're using a fully charged battery.

Then, pull the INJ fuse and the spark plugs and turn the engine over a few times.

Put new plugs in and fire it up!

How are you checking for spark?

When you do get the car running, let it smoke either until the smoke clears, or the damn thing catches fire. Rotaries don't like to be turned off after just a minute or two of running.

i'm getting spark guys, i can turn the crank by hand also.....ended up leading to a bad fuel pump......anyone know how to check and make sure a fuel pump is good before installing it?

best to just install it.. it should only take10-15 minutes to install... then you can jump the wires on your strut tower to turn the pump on and test it

okay....that's what i've been doing to test them and i'm getting power all the way the the pump with the jumper just no pump action.....anyone know what fuel pumps i can use in place of a stock s5 one?

FD fuel pumps are meant to bolt straight in and can flow more than a stock FC one.

From your first post I was thinking that your engine was flooded due to the large amount of smoke that came out. Also because your old man turned the car off before letting the smoke clear and engine warm up it could have made the problem worse.

If it is flooded do what '1988RedT2' said to do and pull the fuel pump or EGI fuse and try cranking it to get rid of the extra fuel in the engine. I've also read if while cranking you push the throttle all the way to the floor it cuts out the fuel pump. Could someone verify this? Seems to work on my car 'cause it floods a bit due to leaky injectors.

eh, dunno if stabbing the skinny pedal cuts off the fuel pump durring start... but I do know it is an old carburetor trick. the saying goes something like, if it doesnt start when you pump it, floor it and pray it starts before it floods. usually works for em though.
