i tried turning my car on today, and for some reason it hesitated. here is a list of everything i double checked that might cause this problem.

1. checked all the coils and were sparking

2. tried jump starting it with some cables

3. i kept taking out the ENG. INJ. fuse and putting it back in, i guess to see if it was flooded

all it did was keep turning and turning, like if it wanted to start but never cranked over. so i decided to push start it and it turned on the second time. i dont know if any of this info helped, but please give me some advice. oh yeah its a 88 N/A

thanks, turboseven

i turned on the car today, and it started fine. i went to a friends house and about 3hrs later i tried to leave and it started the hesitation again. my friend messed with a thing that looks like a round black box(said it was the timing) between the power steering and the engine area, and after that it started. maybe this is the problem since that round black box was missing a screw????? please help this is my daily driver!!!!!!!

thanks, turboseven

p.s. any more suggestions

That little black round thing between the engine area and your power steering is called a crank angle sensor. it has to do with timing. you already know what timing is and how crucial it is to your car so I wont even get into that. But it missing the screw probably bumped it around a little bit and threw the timing off just a smidge. If it works fine now, there ya go :-) also, new plugs wouldnt hurt. hope this is helpful to you.

by any chance, do you live in a colder climate.? my car didnt start sometimes then i go out later and it starts fine.. and i live in a colder climate and when ever it was warmer it would start fine but once its cold it has a hard time starting. ( i have a JDM engine and it does not hvave the cold start assist system. ) i dont know that might be something.

not to repeat I just wanted to second what MR. B said:

the crank angle sensor would deffinitely cause it not to start, or to run poorly when started. you gotta find that screw man, (or a replacement) and speedy too! timing it back to where it was shouldnt be that hard and you should see a little wear circle where the old screw used to sit (does that make sense?). twist it back into position, tighten her down, and best of luck too ya man.

but do it SOON! I'm willing to bet that if you catch that car on the wrong day, out of time, with your foot too far into that loud pedal and you'll kill your baby.
