??? Okay so here is my problem I have an 86 but am not sure what the model is I have power windows and sun roof but no identifying marks. Now My real problem. I bought the car cheap knowing it had a transmission problem (auto). I fixed that today and got the transmission put back in I had only listened to the car run when I bought it. I get on it and it does not realy open up like it should when I get going it is okay but if I get on it and it drops down a gear once it hits like four and a half on the tach it starts sputtering like it is lacking gas or some thing. I know I have a nasty exhaust leak but other than that it sounds and looks like it was worth the money please help.

Check for vac. leaks.

That tube is used to activate your 5th and 6th ports in the motor. It probably isn't the cause of your troubles unless its not connected. I would check all vaccum lines, fuel injectors, and of course...get that exhaust fixed, lol...Non turbo rotaries are real touchy about their exhausts not working properly.

It has 2 purposes, it is used to inject air in the cat to help it burns emission gas and it is also used to create a back-pressure for opening your 5th and 6th ports (auxiliary ports).

Two actuators are used to open those ports. You can see those actuators just above the exhaust manifold, you should be able to open them by hands. If it is hard to push the rods back in, then just put some oil on the rods and push them back in several times with your hand until they moves smoothly.



You could tie them opened with wire to see if it really is your problem.

could an exhaust leak be the cause of a wierd idle. i was going to replae my tps but if its the exhaust then i can just get that fixed first.

What do you mean by weird idle? Up and down or not stable, because when actuators are wired opened you might get an unstable idle but not much. Since the air flow is divided into 6 ports instead of 4, at idle not much air is admitted into intake so it could result in an unstable idle speed. :satisfied:

I don't think the exhaust could have any effect on idle speed stability, but a exhaust leak should be fixed anyway. The TPS adjustment may be needed to get a smooth idle (you only need two 12-volt lamp, easy). It does have to be faulty to cause weird idle. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png
