well i tryed staring up this 90 gxl with a pretty new rebuilt engine which used to work perfect but was crashed and sat for 9 months

i put a new battery and tryed starting it

it would turn over and all belts would slowly go around with only jumpstart power, it just wouldnt turn on or come on all the way, and this will only happen with a jump start..... could that have anything to do with the alternator or flooding???

what do you think happened or what do i need to do to get it up and running?

ECKO1980 04-19-2003 10:52 PM

lol when I got my 83 started after sitting for a year I had to use 2 cars to jump it! lol before you start the car I would change the oil, new water and it might start easyer on some new plugs.....good luck!

CrazyAssRX7 04-20-2003 09:18 AM

thanx

im going to see if my spark plugs are soaked in oil or what

and yeah thanx man, i really want to get this car running

Rob x-7 04-20-2003 10:04 AM

fresh battery, unplug the efi/egi fuses and crank the engine at 20 second intervals until it sounds normall. You may also want to use another car to jump it or a battery charger to make sure you dont drain your new battery.

Then plug the fuses back in and start it up. I dont know how much you cranked it already, but if you didnt pull the fuses you flooded it by now.

Change the oil after you start it as it now has gas in it.

CrazyAssRX7 04-20-2003 02:19 PM

i already tryed to crank it and didnt unplug anything so you think its flooded now??

whats the best way to deflood it?

should i clean all four of the spark plugs good and then put jus a lil bit of oil into the the bottom 2 sparkplug holes and then try to crank?

how should i do this???

75 Repu 04-20-2003 02:27 PM

If you already flooded it.. try what rob said about unplugging the EGI/EFI fuse... and clean you plugs too.. Check the the trailing wires are going to the top plugs and the leading wires to the bottom plugs and make sure you have the correct plugs too..

i was told after a while of sitting the seals strink and it loses compression. The best way to save a battery, is get a tow strap and getting towed at about 60 mph in gear and the seals should swell back up. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/BURNOUT.gif

RotaryRocket219 04-20-2003 07:21 PM

Your serious? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...>/rolleyes.gif

CrazyAssRX7 04-20-2003 07:32 PM

alright well i tryed pratically everything, even switching the spark plugs from my other 7, i put gas, looked everywhere for everything and anything

so i guess what i did wrong was.... not unplugging the EGI/EFI fuse, but which exactly is this???

i have no idea

so somebody help out here

CrazyAssRX7 04-20-2003 07:33 PM

and what are you talking about???

and plus this car i just got ha[pens to be a f^$&^( automatic

RotaryRocket219 04-20-2003 07:42 PM

Fuse box under hood, located on drivers side near strut tower. Pull the EGI fuse and crank car for 5-10 seconds, will diable fuel from being inected and blow acess fuel out of chambers from being flooded. You try putting oil in the spark plug holes yet? I saw you said you put gas...

CrazyAssRX7 04-21-2003 09:56 AM

yeah my bad i put oil into the 2 bottom spark plugs holes and tried it but with out disconnecting anything

you think this will make the difference in it running on or not?

and shoiuld i still put some more oil in thre just incase???

RotaryRocket219 04-21-2003 12:05 PM

Make sure to crank the engine without the fuse in..then do the oil...gotta get all that fuel outta there before you do anything. Pull fuses, throttle to the floor, crank engine for like 5-10...then do the oil.

CrazyAssRX7 04-22-2003 10:51 AM

its just one fuse though right?

the one closest to the engine???

im trying this later on today when i get home

RotaryMoped 04-22-2003 01:09 PM

take out the spark plugs and crank the engine for no more than 7 secs at a time do this 3-4 times let sit for a bit clean spark plugs n try her then. if u drained the oil from the engine put some in the throttle body.Good luck

CrazyAssRX7 04-22-2003 03:53 PM

well i tryed taking out the fuse and strating the car but it just wont flip on

the cars belts will turn slowly but wont turn on, one of my friends is coming by tonight so im going to see what we can do

Rob x-7 04-22-2003 08:36 PM

remember to stop the flow of fuel to the engine.

With the amount of gas you have in there I would

do the ATF thing but use Marvel Mystery Oil instead of ATF

Let it sit overnight, crank it with no fuel again until the engine

sounds normal, then put the fuse back in and try to start it again,

if it doesnt start RIGHT AWAY pull the fuse again and keep cranking.

I always like to crank it a bit before I put the spark plugs

back in after it sits overnight to kind of blow that **** out the spark plug holes.

The key is making sure it doesnt flood out again.

CrazyAssRX7 04-23-2003 11:53 PM

ATF??????

relisys190 04-24-2003 12:15 AM

Phewww Ok:

Car has been sitting. you need to give it a TUNE UP before it will run again. change the oil (drain it, refill it) (5 quarts) Put a new set of spark plugs in. Remember Trailing.... Leading...

Than pull the EGI/INJ fuse. it's the power fuse for the injectors. it turns the injectors on so that fuel can be sprayed into your engine. THe reason your car is flooded it because you tried to start it, when it had allready lost all it's compression. So, take all spark plugs OUT. Drain oil. and put some ATF (Automatic trans fluid) in the two bottem holes in the engine (Leading spark plugs holes)

Put everything back together after giving full tune up. and she ;should; start

Good luck, tell us how it goes. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif

look after it sits for an extended period of time u will lose compression in the motor, on ur upper intake u should have three black hoses runnin vertically down the front... the largest one on top, disconnect it and pour automatic transmission fluid in it...i know this sounds funky but it really works, i restarted my blown motor that sat for a year like this, just trust me.......

disconnect the hose, pour in a bunch, i mean like a quarter of the quart, and pull you injector fuse under the hood and turn it over for probably a 5-10 second length of time, put your fuse back in and try it, most likely it will kinda fire but not take over, then pull it again, put more trans fluid in it, and try it again...should start on second or third try, if u get enough power to move it to a descent speed, two cars might be your best bet with trying to jump it...

what the tranny fluid does it lubricate ur seals and dissipate your excess fuel u dumped into the motor, oh and ya it will smoke like a mother, don't worry it does stip https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png and this method is great for starting a flooded car, but i just hooked a switch up in the car that shuts off the injectors so that makes it a whole lot easier, if u have any questions, email me at aceviper72985@juno.com

CrazyAssRX7 05-13-2003 10:04 AM

cool ill defenetly try that cuz i have tried almost everything else and it should have compression and i did here the 3 swooshes

ill be back with m\any questions or progress
