So I have been having some cooling issues with my car since I first got it. The car was always runnin hot, even on a cool night back in Minnesota, the water sounded like it was boiling, and then engine bay was like opening a hot oven. So first off I ordered a new thermostat and radiator cap, didnt do anything. Then I checked my stock fan and realized that is was basically shot, so I put on a friends stock from which was almost brand new and the car still ran hot. Out of frustration I bought a K2RD radiator and a be cool efan, got that installed and the fan wired, flushed all of the air out of the system......and it still runs hot as ****. Also, I checked the flow of the coolant in the radiator by feeling where it was getting hot while the car warmed up, but that ended with inconclusinve results.

So.......I was convinced that the only thing left to be the problem would be obstructed coolant passages. The motor has 70k on it and the dumbass who owned it before probably put hard water in there. Then I got to thinking, and i realized that the radiator cap on the K2 wasnt a pressurized radiatior cap. Would this matter? I would like to get this figured out before I port and rebuild my motor. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/boink.gif

Any other ideas would be great!

Thanks.

It depends on how your bypass is set-up?

maybe your coolant system isn't pressurizing correctly? Did you do a pressure check of the coolant system?

I am not 100% sure what the "bypass" is but it spunds like the flange that is welded onto the coolant outlet to the motor on the lower part of the rad? Please correct me if I am wrong. And secondly, No I have not pressure checked it, no access to a pressure tester. I am still unsure about this because the rad cap that came with the K2 rad did not a the pressure spring system on it?

i'd throw a thermostat at it

if that doesnt help make sure the baffle hasnt failed in the radiator. if you take it out of the car and it passes water directly from the top hose to the bottom hose (its a double pass) then the baffle needs to be welded back in. when the baffle is bad it lets the water basically bypass the radiator

How can you come to the conclusion that your water passages for your housings/irons are clogged when you haven't even ruled out the basic simple things?

And if this baffle has failed, am I fuxored into buying a new radiator since it is an internal problem, or is there a way to repair it. Also, the thermostat in it is good, checked it on the stovetop to see when it opens.

And also, Cheers, as I read back to the questions I am asking, I may have worded them badly. Yet I never said that any of these were conclusions were for sure and I was just asking for any other possiblilitys. So if you dont have anything helpful to say, please, do not waste my time.

relpace the t stat, testing it on the stove doesnt work 100% you cant tell if its opening far enough.

the k2 radiator can be fixed, its pretty simple

my guess for the cause would be the engine, exhaust in the coolant = boiling over

Cool, thanks for the help man. I will check those as soon as I get my car shipped to me. Thanks again. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif
