Hey a while ago i posted up on how my car was acting funny. Eratic idle, radio flickers on and off while the car is off. How car sometimes just dies on me and takes a while before i can start it up.

Well last week the battery voltage was 14 volts, and this week it was 12. I get out of werk and the batter voltage is low but the car starts with no probs or hestitation. So i get home and i give her the best cleaning i have ever given her. Vacuum, frebreezed the interior used turtle wax rug cleaner, armoralled the interior, washed , cleaned the moldings the rims etc. ANd i go to start the car and its dead. It just click clicks clicks but nuffin. The batter voltage is now 8.

Is it the battery thats it just bad. if so why would it be 14 volts last week and now its 8??

Is it the alternator???

I think its some electrical part of the car that is suckikng the energy from the battery and i think the radio is the cultrprit. Just b4 the car died it was flickering on and off. Can the radio drain the battery that quick even though the car is runnning?

Your help will be widely appreciated ASAP. If its the battery im going to get the Optima battery from my job. If its the alternator i guess the car will be out of service for quite sometime.

Have your work test your alternator.

ROTARYROCKET7 04-06-2003 04:52 PM

iight thanks

Rob x-7 04-06-2003 04:54 PM

you killed the battery having the doors open, did you also have

the radio on?

A alternator is about the same cost as a optima battery is it not?

So what he said and have them test your alternator.

Make sure the terminals are clean and tight on the battery, start

the car and remove the positive battery cable from the battery and see

if the car stays running or not.

God man. Doors closed. Lights off. Keys in my pocket. Radio flicker like if the key was on. Go to sleep wake up. Car is dead no reason found on inspection. Educated guess. Electrical system drainded batter power during the wee hours of the morining. This time i drove to werk car was fine. Drove to lunch and i had 12 volts. Left to go home car had 12 volts. Parked it in the back yard cleaned the car and evthing 12 volts. finished wasgetting ready to park it and car has 8 volts and wont start.

Optima battery $ 100.00 alternator like $200.00

ILUVMY88CABRIO 04-06-2003 05:19 PM

I only paid $110 - $115 for my alternator.

your getting ripped off for that alternator then.

Get it rebuilt instead of those shitty ones you guys

sell which are probably rebuilt in Korea or some ****, lol

Rob x-7 04-06-2003 05:20 PM

now im curious, how much you guys sell a starter for? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683785.gif

ILUVMY88CABRIO 04-06-2003 05:20 PM

Is your stereo rigged up? Loose connections, or a crappy install might be causing your problems.

Rob x-7 04-06-2003 05:28 PM

test the car for a short, do you know how to do that?

isamu 04-06-2003 07:07 PM

I just payed 120 for a rebuilt one from Schucks. I think I would just buy a regular battery and spend the money elsewhere.

ROTARYROCKET7 04-06-2003 09:58 PM

iight i found what the problem was. The alternator belt blew up lol.

on top of this all.....some ******* butcher who had the car before him used a 7/16 wrench to get the fan off and on...and completely rounded off the nuts so you cant even get the ******* fan off with the small tool kit i took to his house..thinking that this will be a 1/2 hour of work.

and some other butch used a chisel, hammer, and axe to install his radio and did not hook up the power antenna wire.

and while i'm fishing out the antenna motor, to put the new antenna mast in, JAZER GRABBED MY ASS https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/ohmy.png

Why did you have to pull off his fan?

ROTARYROCKET7 04-07-2003 11:19 PM

we are going to do all the belts. we wanted to take off the fan cause we got fat hands and it will be alot more roomier to not have it there bothering us while we werk. Plus it was dark and the light source we had was scarce. and today snowed so i couldnt finish my werk on the car .

they probably couldnt figure out why the thing was working

backwords.

"hey, why is it going up when we turn the radio off, and down

when we turn it on??'

"i dunno, just leave it disconnected"

Apex13B 04-08-2003 10:02 PM

anybody got some pointers on how to quickly change all the belts on his car?

FCmaniac 04-09-2003 06:36 AM

Just loosen the adjustment bolts for the accessories and take them off. It helps to loosen the bolts in the center of the PS and AC adjustment pulleys too. They should come off pretty easy even with the fan. Just remember the order you need to put them back on - its Alt, AP, AC, then PS last and dont tighten the adjustment bolts to much for the PS or AC. They'll break and you almost have to get new ones from Mazda which is a rip off.

roner 04-09-2003 09:27 AM

check your battery's terminals. if they're loose replace them. do u have any alarms on your car? a non-working alarm system can **** up a bunch of things.

Baldy 04-09-2003 09:33 AM

a little https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683621.gif , but are there battery terminals that can be taken off and put back on easily? like, if I'm under the hood all the time, and always have to remove the negative terminal, it gets to be a pain...I mean, having to reset all my preset radio stations is bad enough

it helps to use a 1/4 drive ratchet on those and to spray them down with penetrant a few days before.

Apex13B 04-09-2003 07:13 PM

that was the issue...i could not release belt tension and all i had a small brass hammer that i tapped lighty on the head of the tensioner bolt and the bastid would not budge.

Rob x-7 04-09-2003 07:38 PM

you know you have to loosed the nut on the PS pulley right?

Apex13B 04-09-2003 08:32 PM

yeah..i backed both of them off with my brand new handy dandy gear wrench
