So My Father put my car on the road for me.... i got the title transfered and everything shes ready and i got a brand new midpipe section put on for 90 bucks... but the only problem now is it is overheating and i mean REALLY HOT! when we got to the shop that was going to do my exhaust.... he put it on the lift and when you looked up into the main cat. it was GLOWING RED HOT! so i hope i didn't burn nothin else up in the process. but i am going to replace the thermostat and see if that helps but otherwise... i may need some idea on what the problem might be... so just let me know thank you so much...

if the cat is seriously clogged it can cause the engine to overheat.
if your temp gauge is showing overheating conditions stop ****** driving the car, the 13B doesnt tolerate that one bit, you'll blow a water seal and warp the housings. |

is it inspected? if so get ur dad to weld you a nice midpipe and downpipe and get rid of the cats....no cats = no clogging = less heating to overheat the engine
|
um i have a brand new universal cat. in the midpipe and the original cat in the DP and i replaces the thermostat and its been running fine ever since and i had the coolant flushed to be safe this morning and i put like 100 miles on it today.... i got some every once in a while brake squeels and grinds and stuff but i would like one of the rotory gods (Pengaru) to check things over for me... um.. actualy the temp. gauge dont move at all and i discoverd that it does get into boost and looks like it shoots up there pretty high so i was happy.
|
thats good to hear.
if you have the stock cat in the DP, if it hadnt already fallen apart and clogged the old cat that was behind it, it is probably fucked and ready to mess up your new cat. glowing cat usually means clogged cat, or alot of combustion ocurring in the exhaust. If I were you I'd take off that DP and make sure the small cat is hollowed out, and make sure the new cat you have on there hasnt been **** on by the stock cat in the DP. What usually happens is the first precats contents fall apart and clog the following cat(s). |
Do you have your airpump hooked up to the cat right?
|
uh no actualy i dont i need to go back and have the guy put that one for me do i need it really bad
|
If the airpump isnt hooked up to the cat then goodbye cat. That could've clogged it up.

mazdaenthused what happened to the air pump? |
So the coolant flush fixed the overheating prob right?
I don't think it's likely his new cat is clogged due to not having air pump present, especially for the short period of time the car has been running with it. |
um the air pump is still there its just that line that goes into the cat. isn't hooked up to the cat.
|
Its good to hear you are getting on the ball with your car.
|
its sooo exiting but not much summer left and i REALLY dont wanna have to drive it in the winter. and now i'm stretching belts like mad... and my water temp gauge is dead and i can't figure that out
