Well i got a gretty shift knob, the one that screws on, and i cut my shifter shaft, cause it looked awkward, and i have a die with the same thread pitch, i cannot get the die to go any further than like 2 threads, it just will not turn. Any suggestions? I was thinking maybe a heavier duty die, the one i am trying to use is brand new. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683358.gif

hmm.... maybe you shouldnt be trying to thread it with a die.... you should be like cleaning threads with it haha i dont know why you would of cut the shifter, maybe there is a different in the diameter of the shifter?? i know mine is like that

Well... that shaft is pretty large in diameter. I would personally not use a die to cut the thraeds. You may not be able to. What you should do is cut the threads on a lathe.

Or use a starter die and lots of cutting fluid then follow up with the 2nd and 3rd die. There are several different dies, sounds like you got the 2nd die or 3rd one which is only normally used to clean up threads. Good luck.

in the future try threading it before you cut the good threads off https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

I did leave 3 threads on the shaft, but i need to go further. i only went 1 thread deep, and the die is jamming up. Do you know of anywhere that will thread the thing? Like home depot or something?

are you backing the die out to clear the shavings?

Yes i am, and using plenty of oil. It is getting so hard to turn, its starting to make the shaft spin, and im probably ruining the rubber insulator.

My guess is you are running into the taper and it is too wide for the die. You may need to turn the shaft down to the proper diameter. That and chrome is very hard and does not cut well. Try grinding that off first.

Will do man, thanks for all the replys

i would say youre screwed lol remember if the diameter is increasing you cannot thread the shift knob on fully as it would also need to be tapered unless you managed to grind the shifter down to the same diameter all the way through the thread legnth of the shift knob.
