i am interested in supercharging my 87 base model rx-7. The motor has around 175k on it. i was originally planning on turbocharging me car, but after reading, i thought it would be too much trouble(correct me if i am wrong). When researching superchargers, i read that it puts a good amount of stress on the engine. Should i rebuild my engine before i supercharge it? I live in eastern washington, so it is about a 3-4 hour drive to atkins/camden. What i was thinking was if I need to rebuild the motor, get enough money and take it up to get rebuilt and ported possibly, then pick up a supercharger when im there. how much money would it take for a rebiuld, port, and supercharger( i think ~ 2500)? those two alone are gonna be pretty pricey. then you add in trhe supercharger... better have plenty of funding before even ttempting to have all this done. kevin. |
Now that your rebuilding, use turbo rotors.

Atkins will rebuild a motor for about $2k w/ no porting, its $300 for mild streetporting...so you can probably have your motor done for $2300 if you bring them the motor, if you were to drive your car to the shop and have them take it out...rebuilt/port...put back in..you'll probably be closer to $3K...
I'm not sure about the SC costs....that depends on which pulley you go with, and how much additional work you plan to do to support the SC, such as a clutch, maybe T2 driveline, fuel/ignition mods, etc... |
its cheaper to turbocharge your car than it is to supercharge it. You'll get cheaper and easier hp with a turbo too.

It's about the same...I like turbo power for my own reasons, but I'm not going to argue seeing some SC FCs around https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

yeah I will go with the rebiuld and port definately, now i am considerering turboing the motor if it is indeed cheaper. thank you all for now i must go look at n/a to turbo conversion topics for many hours

either way forced induction isn't cheap. To do either correctly I would say its about the same. It just depends on your use of the car. For street use the SC would be awesome. 8,10,12 psi through out the entire power band, No Lag. If it is for drag strip turbo all the way. Road course set up I would go turbo, but that is just me. SC could be good there as well. Its a choice of setups for what you are looking for. NOt which one is cheap. Neither are.

Actuall if you stay away from efi, the kit is really reasonable. If you want to use your efi it jumps by alot on the price.
