So, this is how it went. I reved to 7 g's, popped the clutch and put my foot on the brake while I slammed the gas. She lit up and I was standing still with a nice cloud of smoke wafting in the breeze. I wasnt paying attention to my tach though, which now, I think I should have. Pedal to the floor, think I was exceding 8g's, cause she kept backfireing or something. Before I do this again, not that I'll do it on a regular basis or anything, I'd would appreciate some feedback. Should I be letting off the throttle a bit, and be paying attention to my tach, probably a good idea https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/blush.png . Thanks for the input.

1gendreemer 04-08-2004 05:17 PM

Are you serious? Do you really need to ask? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/angry.png

Actually, wait...nevermind...go outside right now, start your car and hold it to the floor for about ten minutes. It cleans out the carbon and is really good for it. After all, rotaries are indestructable. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/dry.png

Isn't there some type of enforcement group that should take abused cars away from their owners....

sidewinderx7 04-08-2004 05:27 PM

some cars are ment to be abused...

either way, let off the gas when youre wheels are spinning... WATCH the tach and dont over rev. DO NOT hold the pedal to the floor.

1gendreemer 04-08-2004 05:48 PM

Meant to be abused...sure. Meant to be held to the floor with disregard to the tach while doing a burnout from 7000RPMs....probably not so much. I'm not trying to be an ass here (well ok in the first post I was), but really I think a little common sense would've went a long way. Be smart about the stupid things you do...

Sorry if I stepped on toes there Wankleteer. Next time go a little easier. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif

Don't keep it floored once you get the burnout going go into second and keep it below redline fluctuate the pedal or keep it stable. To make this easier get a line lock system.

bart3lz 04-08-2004 06:03 PM

how would u be able to go into second while holding down the brake and gas at the same time...if u could wouldnt it stop the burnout or do u just have to do it quick?

If I were you I wouldn't try that until you have a line lock system but it can be done.I think thats how I fried the stock clutch.Anyway you have to shift very quickly,it takes some practice.

bart3lz 04-08-2004 06:41 PM

what does a line lock system do and how much would one be...

Wankelteer 04-08-2004 07:04 PM

Alright, goog stuff, it was the first burnout that I've ever done, so, wasnt to sure on how everythin' works. Thanks for the input https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

4RotorRocket 04-08-2004 07:10 PM

A line lock system locks up the back breaks freeing the rear to spin while the front brakes are locked holding you in place to do a burnout. You press on the brakes as hard as you can,hit the switch on the line lock to lock up the front, then you let go and the front brakes are locked keeping you in place during the burnout.

Here's a link to some of these systems

You could always heal-toe it to second. Our pedals are pretty nice I think for doing this.

This also reminds me that I need install my line lock now. Damn it, more parts to break.

Apollorx7 04-09-2004 12:43 AM

When I do a burnout I hold the break and gas with my right foot. I usually dont do them for an extended period of time though and my feet arent exactly small either. But if you do that you have your left foot free to use the clutch for shifting.

Baldy 04-09-2004 07:42 AM

I did the same thing on my first (and so far only) brake stand. I was trying to pay attention to my brake pressure (previous attempts stalled the engine). I don't know what my right foot was doing, but I remember that bouncing-off-the-limiter-while-backfiring sound. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

bart3lz 04-09-2004 12:29 PM

so how do u disengage it? do u engage it at the beginning with the switch and flick the switch to turn it off to move?

sphinx munkey 04-09-2004 12:42 PM

wow, that is great, after i get my rx7, hopefully this weekend... we'll see... then i'm getting that kit https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

do reliability mods first

Leetheslacker 04-09-2004 02:50 PM

A line lock is generally isntalled by people who drag race a lot, because they end up doing a lot of burnouts.

drunkin_idiot 04-09-2004 07:03 PM

It was cool the other day it rained and I pulled off a 4 gear burnout. Next time im going for a 5 gear burnout because my friends svo mustang did it, so why cant I?

g_dripht-alex 04-12-2004 02:54 PM

No need for a line lock on a STOCK/NEAR STOCK STREET car.

pro draggers use them cause its easier to warm up their slicks.

i agree with this, you seriously dont know ****.

bart3lz 04-13-2004 05:05 PM

i had no intention of buying one. it just seems like something interesting to read up about since i didnt know they made these.

ydeardorff 04-18-2004 11:57 PM

In 1994 I purchased a gen 1 with a new motor in it.

I took her out to the airport run way on a sunday after I had gotten used to it and wnated to see what she would do. I was well aware of the damaged that is caused by dropping the hammer on a tranny even if it takes it. So I just revvedher up to her powerband, around 4500 to 5000 RPM's, and let the clutch out just alittle fater than I normally would. With the higher RPM, she lit up the rear tires, well not liking to take any motor to its redline, (especially given it was my commuter) I kept shifting from 1st to 2nd and so on , and so on, until 5th gear had arrived, fianlly around 5500 RPM's in 5th gear the rear end started to wheel hop on me. So I layed off, fished around alittle and then rolled to a stop.

If Your gonna play make sure its in a safe place folks. My new project will have a 200HP 13B with a porsche 911 5speed tranny, in a 1600 lbs car. So it should be alot of fun!
