I'm in the process of redoing the braking system. Who do you guys recommend for pads and SS brake lines. I do AutoX and track days on a fairly regular basis. What am I saying, I drive like it's track day everyday....

I've already purchased X-Drilled and Slotted Brembro rotors. (Mine were about shot)

The previous owner didn't take very good care of this vehicle.

Thanks

Stainless steel brake lines are a great upgrade. They give you a much better feel. As far as pads go for autox and street use I would go with Hawk HP+. I think that they would suit your needs. If you dont auto x much then the HPS is a great aggressive compound for mostly street use.

On the subject of brake upgrades, are there any companies that sell just larger brake rotors? I might be able to get a hook up on some porsche calipers and if I could get larger rotors to compliment this I think it would really work well on the track.

BTW, how long do the stock brakes usually last before they begin to fade on the track?

Yo i recommend you go to AutoZOne. they may not have performance brakes but if you buy a pair of SemiMetallics Brakes , whcih cost like $19.99. You never have to buy brakes again. As soon as they wear out you just bring em back and you get a new pair at no cost. It has a Lifetime Warranty, well for as long as you own your car. I have the brakes on and they work fine. Just a options. You can use Hawks but they never wear out from waht i hear. They can take abeating. The only problem is they might warp your rotor.

Isnt it much cheaper to change brakepads (for free ) then to buy rotors?. Plus it depends on how u drive..

porterfield has some great pads the hawks are nice but hard on rotors. Don't overlook the brake fluid get a good fluid change it often and bleed them before each track event.

check with brembo and powerslot..

experienced brake fade from oem pads fairly quickly..

quick enough to give you concern after a fair amount of hard laps..

I got the stainless DOT legal lines from Mazdatrix for around $85 if I remember right... and Hawk HP+ fronts and HPS rears... I didnt put the Hawks on yet but I've heard the HP+ dust like hell

ROTARYROCKET7 03-27-2003 08:58 AM

how are the mazzdatrix brake lines? Let me know. I am interseted in getting them. They help your car stop better because theycan handle more pressure ?

rmaiersg 03-27-2003 09:08 AM

Your car will not stop better. You can still lock up your tires, correct? What it will do, however, is give you a better feel so you can push the brakes harder to the limit without blocking them up, that is if you're a driver sensitive to the car.

Being a teen still, I've seen a lot of kids not pay attention to where they're driving and all of a sudden there is another car right in front of them. Consequently, they SLAM on the brakes and lock the tires. A lot of them claim to be above average drivers. You don't see Micheal Schumacher doing this at the track. Driving pleasure is all about the feedback you recieve from the car. IMO at least.

lock up your brakes...not tires..

the idea behind the upgrade is that..rubber line expands under pressure

whereas the ss lines keeps its rigidity..major factor as smitty indicated ..is your fluid...

this is bad advice if the initial inquiry is for track use...

theres no cutting cost at this level

agreed.

Also, every car setup is uniquely different. Take everyones advice with a grain of salt. Do you know the limits of the pads your currently running? Hawks wont help your car stop better than a stock pad, but they are very very hard to fade when road racing. You will NEVER get a set of hawk pads hot enough for them to be affective on an auto-x course. Find out what the limits of your car is, then decide what you need.

Even the HP+ pads?? I got them with autox in mind because they are for street and "light duty track use" and Hawk recommends them for autox. Are you referring to the Hawk race compound pads (I mean the real high temp ferro carbon ones) ?

ive never used the HP pads, but i know the blues and blacks are waay too much for a street driven car.
