Ok, I've pretty much finished the 5-lug swap. Now I need to bleed the brakes. I was going through the Haynes manual, but it's still unclear.



I understand the process, and where to hook up the hose, but where is the bleeder screw/bolt? Do I turn the actual valve stem/bolt that the hose is on? The book didn't exactly say.



And if these brake assemblies have been sitting awhile, do I need to bleed from the lower valve on the rear, or the upper one?

also, the only other problem I ran into was one of the brackets for the parking brake was off while the assemblies sat, and the mounting hole kinda rusted. I can't seem to get the bolt for the bracket in far enough to tighten up the bracket, but it gets in there some. So I was thinking of just getting some (or one) extra washer(s), in addition to a lock washer. Let me know if this is a bad idea.

OT: Did you get the proportioning valve from the 5 lug donor vehicle? Its different than the one on the 4 lugs. John

As I remember, the bleed bolts for the rear is right on the caliper assembly, and the screw is the same one you put the hose onto. You just turn it and pop off the little rubber cap and bleed away. It's been a while since I did this so my memory might be fuzzy, but that's what I remember.

Its the funny block bolted on the master Cylinder. You chould also change the master cylinder to the GXL one also

well, damn. that kinda throws a wrench in the plan, so to speak. How pertinant is that? Can I drive for awhile without it?

Front to rear balance won't be correct.

ok, I bled the brakes, and put everything back together. Let me just say, I'm happy it didn't fall apart, even when I pulled out of the driveway.



But the brakes only worked if I jammed them almost all the way to the floor. Did I just not bleed them enough? I thought I had all the air out, and I went by the order in the Haynes book (right rear, left rear, right front, left front). What other factors could contribute to this, so I know what to check out?
