Yo, 1990 T2.



Trying to get the brake pistons to retract on the rear brake calipers. rx7turbo.com says use needle nose pliers and that isn't getting it done. Anyone have any tips on how to get the piston to retract to get the new pads on there?



We're also changing out the brake lines to SS Braided ones, trying to get the flare fitting for the brake line off without a pair of flare nut wrenches...is it possible or should we go buy the wrenches?

I was told to just get the wrenches. You know they'll come in handy more than once.



I didn't try the brake line without the proper wrench, but with the correct one, it was pretty much effortless, and I didn't strip anything.

does the rear caliper require the piston to be screwed back in?

yes. Also, make sure you dont have the parking brake on. You can do it with good size needle nose plyers, just force that piston clockwise.

Mine was really tough...I had to grab the piston with some pliers and turn it that way, like a bolt head. It chewed it up a little, but nothing too serious.

oh so i was wrong! never did my brakes. is it different from changing em on any other car or what?

Wait, did you get a TII or is this someone elses?

ok thanks to mike (j9fd3s) we discovered a unique way, took a 9/16 open end wrench, put vise grip on other side, put open end onto two slots on piston, turned. Went in like a charm.



Just finished the rear rotors and pads, now about to confront the fronts.



decided cant get rear brake lines off for now, we'll just upgrade front lines and jump at the rear ones later.
