i need a new exhaust and the borla doesnt really cost that much.... its the full cat back dual exhaust for the second gen. has anyone heard one of these or used it? i was wondering what it sounded like and how it performed. i figured borla might result in a lower tone than your typical ricey exhaust with 5 inch tip

1Revvin7 10-04-2002 10:57 PM

just get side exhaust like me  https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/boink.gif

90_GTU_jeremy 10-04-2002 11:47 PM

lol what? no way... dont you burn holes in your pants? rotaries run ******* hot

Fastrotaries 10-05-2002 01:44 AM

i have an XR1 race muffler and it doesn't muffle much, it's still loud as ****. but borla makes some quality stuff. I believe that system is straight through.

Rob x-7 10-07-2002 12:20 PM

I have Borla, toooooo loud, go with the Racing Beat.

90_GTU_jeremy 10-07-2002 02:44 PM

Rob has one converter, and it's still really loud.

90_GTU_jeremy 10-07-2002 02:59 PM

hmmm how about the cheapest one from rx-7.com? the racing beat is expensive

90_GTU_jeremy 10-07-2002 03:00 PM

rp 50 mm dual exhaust i think

My friend has that. It's loud and it makes his car sound like a Honda. I don't know if that's how it usually sounds, or if the mufflers are burned out. Either way it wouldn't be my top choice.

90_GTU_jeremy 10-07-2002 04:16 PM

ugh... that sucks... besides that and the borla everythnig tops $500 for the catback... plus ive got to pay 340 for the new cat + dp oh well

j9fd3s 10-07-2002 04:54 PM

the n1 single isn't super loud (if you keep the cat) and its under $450....

I've wanted a borla catback, but when I went to their site (can't remember it now) it didn't show anything related to RX-7s. Didn't they stop doing parts for RX-7s a while ago?

Where did ya find the information on the Borla catback you're looking at?

Rob x-7 10-07-2002 05:56 PM

Im running a single 2.5" Catco converter from Summit racing, cost $70, and a Kooks Headers custom stainless exaust with the Borla Xr-1 mufflers, it passes NYS emissions, but its still loud. After hearing 13B ace's car with the Racing Beat, I would DEFINITLY go with it. Its worth the money. $340 for a dp is way too much money by the way

90_GTU_jeremy 10-07-2002 09:15 PM

340 for dual cats... which includes the dp. also iwant to stay dual and avoid the ricey look of a 5 inch tip... dont want anythnig over 3.5... guess im goint to have to settle for the noise. borla from their site lists a full cat back for the 86-91 rx-7

Well, its a desirable trait in women, why not exhausts?

Sheesh! How loud can it be? My TII currently has nothing but the downpipe attached to the turbo, and I started it up. It ain't that loud! Trust me, when one of these big American iron V-8's at the dragstrip fires up with open exhaust, now that's focking loud!!! I have driven my car with just the cats and no mufflers, and yeah, it gets on your nerves a little after a few dozen miles, but no big thing.

I think I'll run the N1 single when I do get a catback. I just don't like that big ass 4.5" tip.

Maybe we got it good here in Virginia, but I think I could roll through town with no exhaust and the cops wouldn't even look at me.

vosko 10-08-2002 09:40 PM

n1 sounds good! trust me i have one! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Rob x-7 10-09-2002 06:09 PM

How loud can it be? Too loud to not be on a fast car, lol. How about I cant hear the bass in my stereo when Im under way? Resonates in the cabin, not as much as before the converter was added, but still it gets on your nerves. GTU jeremy- if your in my area one day, Ill let you hear the Borla

90_GTU_jeremy 10-09-2002 06:12 PM

yeah really... how loud can an umoded na possibly be? im just going to get the borla.. intercooled tips look cool and dnt look like coffee cans... now i just got to save the money. i figure ill probly get a dcent power increase over my leaky exhaust and 12 year old rusty ass cats. my car is pretty loud now anyway since mot of te sound escapes b4 it even reaches the muffler

Let us know how it works out, a non-turbo rotory is loud, loud and annoying.

I like how my NA sounds with the full RB exhaust, no cat. I only found it annoying once on a road trip, cruising around 90mph in 5th had this constant drone that gave me a headache after a couple hours... my gf didnt mind it though *shrug*.

Borla is straight through, the Racing Beat system is nice, Ill throw the RB mufflers on this spring if I keep the car

90_GTU_jeremy 10-09-2002 08:11 PM

what do you mean straight through? it has mufflers doesnt it? and ts a cat back...

It has mufflers, you pick the muffler up, look in one end, and right out the other, there is like a baffle in there or some ****, but the exaust passes cleeeeeeeean through, not thru the baffle.

90_GTU_jeremy 10-09-2002 08:17 PM

oh ok i got it... so in other word really loud... thanx. seriusly though im sure an na int that loud with the cats still on... at idle anyway.. wot is probly loud as all hell... but thats how it should be

The mufflers do alot of the quieting down... when my Y pipe flange broke off I wanted to cry it was so loud, but this was with RB header + presilencer only... no cat, but the volume difference was huge without the stock mufflers... after that added RB Y pipe and mufflers, then it sounded very sexy at idle and wot.

Rob x-7 10-10-2002 03:16 PM

When my exaust was getting done, I went there and heard the car before the mufflers got welded on. The next day when I picked the car up, it sounded the same, so basically the Borla mufflers didnt muffle anything

I believe that the RB mufflers are straght through, but I never bothered to check. XR-1's are ALOT louder than other Borla mufflers.

90_GTU_jeremy 10-10-2002 11:02 PM

yeah the borla catback doesnt use the xr1 mufflers... i think it uses something else... either way i dont think welding is necesary with it... as its bolt on

Turbo II 10-10-2002 11:10 PM
