ok so i have aboost gauge in my a-pillar.
it has a line about the size of a mini-straw running from it, this line is LONG AS HELL it spirals and ****, through the firewall to just past the TB to the back of the UIM. now in the engine bay it swaps to a normal size straw then to a normal sized silicone hose. would this create an inaccurate reading on my boost gauge (a VDO, btw) its the one last thing to check before i go and pressure test my wastegate, and if the wastegate is working then im ******* stumped. kevin. |
I don't beleive it would cause a problem. Mine goes from the guage using a small teflon line and then connects into a brass block that has a vacuum fitting on the end and hooks into a sylicone line which goes into my UIM. Your problem may be the amount of line and the location that it connects to the TB. Mine is connected to the third vacuum(bottom) fitting on the front side of my uim and gives a very accurate reading. I know this from checking it against my haltech. Try shorting the amount of line and putting it in a new location.

may be pinched or cracked with a leak. my old gauge had a line that was dried out and cracked. i replaced it with new lining (you can get it at lowes, home depot, autozone, etc) that came with the new gauge and wrapped it with duct tape for added protection.

Longer vacuum lines take longer for the gauge to respond. It should be as short as possible. Thats why electronic gauges are more accurate, they have under 12" usually of vacuum line to the sender. But it also depends on the qaulity of the sender, thats why lots of guys blow big bucks on defi/hks ect..

i agree with revvin, a non-electronic boost gauge is just a boost leak waiting to happen. When you get the haltech, just wire a boost soleniod setup and use an electronic gauge.
Buy new line from a speed shop for the boost gauge and make it stupid short. god that car is a ****** hackjob |
