OK I traded for a car, and it has a blown coolant seal, but the motor was rebuilt 700 miles ago, so I am assuming that I wouldn't have to replace any of the hard parts in the engine. So with that being said, what seal kit do I need to buy to fix the blown coolant seal. I am debating weather to put a SBC in my car or to fix the seal and put the stock engine back in it. And if it will cost me less than 400 to fix the blown coolant seal, I will do that and keep the stock engine, but if I have to spend like 600+ I'm gona drop a SBC in it. So if anyone could shed some light on what gasket kits I would need, and were the cheapest place to buy them at is, I would geatly apiciate it.
Thanks, Cory |
well theoretically all you need is an engine gasket set, which is like $100.

Well if the engine was overheated enough to blow a coolant seal, then most likely the rotor housings are warped. You would have to see if they are in spec.

plain and simple it probably won't cost you 100 dollars to fix. If you have to open the engine up just rebuild it.a master kit is 869 dollars. a pair of good housings is usually around 250 dollars if yours are indeed warped. I would go this route myself but you aparant'y like the SBC. I obviously don't. Although technically you could repair the engine and keep the old seals and only replaces the coolant rings and all that and get some new housings for around 500 dollars.

i find it fishy that its bad at 700 miles.
http://www.mazdatrix.com/getprice.asp?part...um=10-2710-8DF1 they are pricey, last time i bought one it was like $80 mike |
Mine is an S4 TII.
And there is no way I am going to buy a rebuild kit, because I somply don't have that kind of money, and right now I have about $580 bucks to spen on it. And it is either going toward fixing the 13BT, or a SBC. Which I am really not likeing the more I think about it, because it would be bastardizing my car. But the low end torque would be nice. Also if I just replaced the coolant seals, would I only need an O-ring gasket set??? |
well how are you going to do an SBC swap with soo little money? At this point it would be cheaper to rebuild than to do a swap. Not to mention you would still have an RX not some chevy mutation that is not an RX.

I found a rebuild 350 SBC, for $500, and I have a 350 turbo transmission, but I will most likely have to buy a 400 turbo. And also I would have to sell my 13BT to fund it, but after listing to my brother telling me to make a supra7, I think it might be rather interesting to put a 7MGTE in my car. Well I'm just trying to figure out the cheapest and most reliable way to do it. (because I'm a tight ass)
