Hey, I just bought a 87 RX-7 Turbo and I was told the first thing I need to do is to buy a new intake system. First to mind was a K&N system, but I was wondering if anyone knew of a cheaper system tha works just as good. Basically I'm looking for the best bang for the buck kinda deal here. Also, where I can buy this from. Thanks!

I would suggest a custom 3 inch pipe to go from the air flow meter to the turbo then a simple cone filter attached to the air flow meter... look here:

sweet maybe i'll pick that up quick meanwhile this is the third air intake topic

IMO, they are work the same and all of the "funnels and stacks" that they have is bullshit. I had a K&N and an Apex'i on my car and there was NO difference

autozone $20 specta cone filter!

MazdaEnthused 06-10-2003 11:44 PM

yea thats what i'm gonna do is just run a cone of of my stock rubber hose for the time being and then eventualy find somthin to replace the hose

you have to keep teh AFM, you can't just run a cone on your hose, the ECU need the AFM signal to work

Now I was reading somewhere that you needed an adaptor plate on the S4 becasue the inlet to the AFM is not round like the S5's. If this is true, then that kit for $12 is not to shabby. Looks like the one that came on my T2.

Like they said, an "intake" is the same around the world, it will NOT improve flow over another with the same basic design. Due to the simple fact that the AFM will disrupt the air flow as it is. Get one of these if you want, or some other cheap model, and do the 3" TID mod (USE THE SEARCH KEY FOR "TID") The TID is where the flow is made up, not before the AFM.
