im currently in the market for a reman as my oil seals are finally shot. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/violin.gif ive narrowed it down to a base rebuild from either pineapple racing or mazdatrix. they both seem to have good reputations, so does anyone have experience with eithers engines?

pengaru 02-12-2003 12:39 AM

personally, I prefer the do it yourself approach, that way you save some money possibly, but learn something in the process. And gain an experience in your life few people will ever have, not only building your own engine, but building a rotary. Few people drive one, even fewer have built the one they drive. If it's at all plausible, and you have the self confidence and discipline, go for a rebuild yourself.

Otherwise, both mazdatrix and pineapple have good reputations, I'd personally use mazdatrix though just becase I have more experience with them and they have been very helpful whenever I bother them with technical questions.

What about Rotary Resurrection? They do a basic S4 rebuild including apex seals for $1200.

Rotaryman88 02-12-2003 10:26 AM

Well, mazdatrix has been in the game longest of the two(i think). But both are good companies. Rotary Resurrection is kinda new, and I would wait a little while with them. I'm not sure where you are located, but KDR Performance is a really good shop here on the east coast...they're getting big business and I have only heard good about them...you can find them online. Personally, I went with Atkins Rotary out in washington state. I personally feel they are the best as I have used them multiple times in the past for other projects. They give you a core refund, and quality built motors. They'll also do a simple streetport for an extra $300! It's really up to you...Atkins, Mazdatrix, or Pineapple...

rotary resurrection reuses lots of seals that the other guys do not. that is why R R is cheap....

j9fd3s 02-12-2003 11:49 AM

rob golden has been around for years, he didnt always have his own shop though.

and lets not forget judge ito :bigthumg:

so basically, they just use a new gasket kit and apex seals but not all the other seals and springs? I'm curious how much a basic rebuild fair price is with all new coolant, oil, corner, apex seals, gaskets, springs, all the internal stuff aside from the rotors, housings, and e shaft I guess..... what, $2K?

mazdatrix lists all the stuff seperately, all the seals and gaskets run about 800-1000

vosko 02-12-2003 12:02 PM

well you should use new rotor housings too. that will make the engine last alot longer

how many cars you gonna spot me?

Rotaryman88 02-12-2003 05:23 PM

Yea...atkins doesn't reuse anything. Every internal is new or at least remanufactured. Nothing used really goes into the motor..my motor got all new housings, seals, rotors, bearings,etc....the actual motor cost me 3400 shipped w/ a large streetport, better internals, and 2mm 2pc seals....

75 Repu 02-12-2003 05:27 PM

I rebuilt my engine in my bro's backyard..

Different story for me. Atkins give me used rotor housings and sides. Probably the only thing new were the apex seals. Motor broke a main bearing less than a year later. Guess what, no warranty on bearing failure.

But then it only cost me 1550 for the engine.

C

you get what you paid for...

I believe what he meant was they don't reuse stuff if you pay for new, some places don't really disclose what is reused and what is new. You were probably fully aware of what you were buying and got exactly that, and paid a reasonable price for it.
