Bent my lateral link, anyone know the prices for one, or is anyone selling a used one from a parts car for cheap? Is it bad to continue driving on it? And any tricks on making the install easier?

and since im bored here's how it happened:

ok we setup a closed off drifting course in an abandoned companies giant parking lot. And we were all having fun. I was busting out some fun drifts, as was everyone else.

THEN the ******* showed up. Kid who goes on and on about his wrx.

Decides he wants to show us that awd is better then rwd challenges my friend with an older supra to a race he turns him down and we just tell the kid to get out (me making the biggest scene about it lol)

He refuses and parks his car and says hell just watch. so im like whatever. my turn comes up and i start going when i hear a loud ass BOV behind me (my BOV is NOT loud) It's the ******* WRX. Im already approaching the drift corner and have it all setup so no time to pull out of it. This ******* decides to slam on the gas and cut the inside nearly hitting/killing me so i take drastic measures, causing me to lose control but managed to only bang into a curb which bent my lateral link.

moderators: please dont move to kills section this is 2nd gen specific, minus the story.

oh and this was NOT street racing, it was more like car-in-motion-watching. there was SUPPOSED to be only one car going at a time to prevent the feel of competition...till the wrx ******* (paul) decided to attack me.

hit a curb going sideways at about 60-70mph, primarily with the drivers side rear tire....bet youll bend it too.

i expected to have my rims snapped in half but it only has minor curb rash now.

kevin.

teknics 10-23-2003 11:10 PM

as for how i ONLY bent that. i dunno, what else should i look for? i checked all the components on both sides that i could see. none were cracked and none looked out of shape except that one.

checked the shock, the little blue tokico looked perfectly fine. i jacked it up and moved it and **** to look for irregular play, and i didnt feel any (it was to late/dark when i got home to take the wheel off, plus its freezing)

ill take off the wheel tomorrow and give it a better inspection.

the car drives perfectly fine no vibrations at low or high speeds, just alignement is off a bit, camber is more negative on that wheel (it looks like it, the top of that wheels is farther in towards the body then the pass. one is) and taking tight right turns feels a little loose.

About 80 bucks when i got mine 10 years ago.

With it bent, it will change the geometry. Mostly toe. The ends are like ball joints. I would recommend getting a new one if you can.

Your lucky if you only bent that??

relisys190 10-24-2003 01:40 AM

I've done a similar thing.. hit the curb with my right rear tire and ONLY BENT the lateral link. I found on at a junkyard for 10$, and they are a breeze to change. Not sure on bolt size though.

-markus

"Dont drive with a bent link. The toe - angle is all messed up i bet.." CHEERS!

Nemesis 10-24-2003 02:59 AM

You could always upgrade to the adjustable camber link while your at it...

I hope you beat the ******* piss out of that guy.

ZenRXSeven 10-24-2003 03:02 AM

Whew, only $10? That's a really sweet deal. They're $140 new from Victoria British.

Erik 10-24-2003 09:11 AM

hope you get it fixed man...sorry I can't be of any help...but DAMN, it boggles my mind how people can be such ******* assholes...(referring to the WRX kid)...how old was he?

teknics 10-24-2003 01:13 PM

well the WRX kid is 18. I was the only kid under 20 besides him (im only 19) that was there.

The WRX is now mirror-less and fuel door-less.

well i guess ill have to visit the junkyard soon.

kevin.

the front bushing on the trailing arm is pretty soft so hopefully that deflected and the only thing bent was the lateral arm.

you should check the wheel for being bent, and the wheel hub as well.

once you get a new lateral link have the car aligned that will tell you if something is too bent to use

yea i figured at the shop i'd put on the lateral link cause it seems like a quick job esecially with a 2post shop lift. then i'd throw it on the alignment rack to make sure everything is still straight.

honestly the car drives fine, no noises or anything, just right hand turns are pretty lose if i dive into them.

I gave everything a good once/twice over and i only see the lateral link being fubar. wait till you guys see a pic of it lol.

I got my vert from the original owner years ago, got it for a good

price because he also had hit a curb, bent a cracked a rim in the process. He then put rims and tires on the car, few months later he blows out the rear tire because it wore on the inside. He then took it

to a body shop where they told him he had frame damage. I drove the

car once and bought it right away because I knew it had no frame damage from the way the car drove. It drove perfectly fine.

1 lateral link ( cost was about $80-$90 ) and a good alighment and the car has perfect ever since.

Make sure you take it someplace and get a good alighment after.

Good i re-looked over the car and definitely the only damage is the rear driver's lateral link.

The rims are fine and dandy minus the curb rash.

I'll be doing all the work, including the alignment at the shop, hopefully do it on tuesday cause i wanna grab the link from the junkyard on monday.
