I've got a '86 NA and I get a bearing noise. It doesn't do it when I'm first warming up the car, but after I drive it for a while and when I'm stopped I get a bearing noise. It doesn't make any difference if the clutch is in or not its still the same noise.

Have you tried Synthetic oil in your trans?
Could it be you pilot bearing? |
I have red line oil in the trans. The noise is only there when the car gets warm and only at idle. It doesn't make noise when driving and/or the engine is above 1500 to 2000rpm. it doesn't make any difference if the clutch is pushed in or not.

Have you checked to see if it's coming from the engine.

if the noise stops in 4th gear only ya got yourself a imput bearing gone bad, though the bearing noise if its an imput bearing will normaly quiet down if ya push in the clutch. does that happen ? i have seen alot of imput bearings goin out latley for some reason dont know why but i know of 4 of my buddies whos trannys are due for one
