Hi, i've been readin this forum/site for the past week just lurking around the diff forums and parts, mostly because of a sudden profound interest in a 2nd gen rx-7 https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png , of course I do not know the lingo you guys use, ex. s4

last week, i was with my friends (one who drives a '03 jetta 1.8, one with a 99 acura 3.2, and one who drives a 2001 max, who is also about to buy a 2003 GTi 1.8 or VR6). We were in the parking lot of a Sport Authority. We were about to leave, then a car pulls beside us, with a old lady smoking inside. I am a true noob to the rotary world, but at that moment the first thought that popped into my head was, "hey thats a nice car, miss" Then I asked my friend isnt that a nice car. He greeted the woman. By some miracle, the woman said "U wanna buy this car?"

it was a 1987 Rx-7, automatic, 43k miles, owned by a cop/her son ( dunno if it was a Turbo or not..)

After that day, I've been researching about a 2nd gen rx-7

my questions are :

How much would it cost to buy a 2nd gen rx7?

How much to maintain it?

Since I've been told by my friends that the rotary engine is known for little problems that happen every now and then, how often do problems happen?

thats all the questions i could think of now at 2am...

Thanks https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

from what I hear, automatics aren't as nice a standards, but that car has some pretty low miles. I got my 86 with 140,xxx miles plus a parts car for $1500, and I've heard of many others getting theirs for much cheaper.

here's a thread on how much everyone else paid: how much did you pay?

as for your other questions, I can tell you mine is simple to maintain so far, but other folks shouls give you their more experienced input

they are very simple to maintain, the big bugaboo is that everyone gets scared of the rotary engine and then cant seem to diagnose the same things that they would on a ford, even though the same things still apply

any problems I've had I've been able to fix myself, and this is my first car ever (except the sunroof...but I could've done it if I tried)

Theyre pretty easy to keep up if you have any basic sense of cars. Most the same things as normal cars apply to the rotary engine and as long as you do the normal maitanence at the right time and treat the car right it will treat you well in return.
