89 Rag 04-18-2005 08:03 PM

#5 is a good mod if done correctly, most ppl half-ass it.

I would add the TB mod, unless you desperatly need 1-2 hp, it's a complete waste of time.

Rob x-7 04-18-2005 08:05 PM

is this like a general discussion topic?

I nominate the plexiglass sunroof complete with bolts sticking out and ill fitting weatherstripping.

GreyGT-C 04-18-2005 08:15 PM

when banzai buys me the real manual rack that i want, i'll remove my looped rack system that has worked well for me for the past 6 years. old bastard.......

*edit* jsut realized that this was 2nd gen..... he's still an old bastard.

nightwolf_4_98 04-19-2005 12:11 AM

Running fine and without issues, if I ever encounter a problem, I will agree with you on the meantime, I don't tend to jump on the "I said so vanwagon"

This is a pretty nice efan in my opinion.

1988RedT2 04-19-2005 10:28 AM

I did the PD to banjo bolt mod. What can I say. Is it okay if the car is race only?

Yes it is, mine does not have the modified shroud, and even then, I haven't had any issues https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

banzaitoyota 04-19-2005 12:17 PM

That Efan is the exception to the rule as far as installs concerning the shroud. It still doesnt address the issue of the FC's marginal electrical system..............

teknics 04-19-2005 02:44 PM

TB Mod is a waste of your time if you feel like having tons of tiny little shits to test and diagnose if you ever have a problem. I dunno what people hate about simplicity. When i was done, it was simplistic, the car idled perfectly at stock 700rpm and i didnt have to worry about anything sticking, not working etc..except my throttle cable.

E-fan...i think you should correct it and put "doing an e-fan incorrectly" you can do an e-fan properly and it will not only save you space but be somewhat comparable to the stock fan. When i did my first one, i did it ghetto, knowing the car was going down for a while soon so i didnt care i just needed more room.

PS rack - > Manual rack... What exactly is the problem here? I went lock to lock which removes enough fluid that its easy to turn yet leaves enough fluid in it to self-lubricate...i just blocked the ports off with bolt tho, no loopy lines. In all honesty most people were shocked at how easy it was to turn my steering wheel at a stand still.

I think a lot of the possibly easy paths are fucked up by people cheaping out on the cheap mods. Like its a cheap mod to begin with...at least do that correctly, but people ghetto-ize the ghetto-ness. if ya get what i mean.

but hey whatever floats your boat... I think anything exterior is the most useless modification possible. That being said, i switched to an FC2000 frontend because i cant stand the poor lighitng of my popups, i tried desperatly to make them be bright and it just wasnt happening so i dumped them.

anywho back to my cave i go,

kevin.

Black8 04-19-2005 02:53 PM

I agree with everything but #2.....I've done it before, and I had no problems.....

RONIN FC 04-19-2005 03:23 PM

Im guilty of #2 and #5. I just cant stand the sound of a cluch fan whirring like an old willys jeep.

Baldy 04-19-2005 03:30 PM

I'm guilty of none of those! Do I get a cookie?

banzaitoyota 04-19-2005 03:46 PM

My personal line of reasoning on Power steering rack as a manual rack.

1. Manual Racks are designed to use grease as the rack lubricant.

2. PS Racks are designed with the seals to be lubricated by a certain flow of a specific fluid flowing past them.

So, you loop your lines, leaving in a small amount of fluid in the rack. Over time this fluid heats up during operation (which causes the fluids lubricating qualities to degrade even further) and it gets dirtier from wear particles.

Eventually you run the risk of of tearing the operating piston seal(due to inadaquate lubrication) in the rack and greatly increasing the level of effort required to operate the rack.

That is my opinion and you are invited to post your rebuttals

Black8 04-19-2005 04:47 PM

umm....well yeah.....I used to do in my AE86's because manual racks are hard to find, and even then you needed to find the steering collum as well because it was different between manual and power racks. also the manual rack had a slower ratio.

In my FC's I only had one with power steering and I left it alone.

1. yep its there for a reason, even if its not obvious

2. manual rack too slow.....

3. yeah

4. yep

5. if your engine is REALLY BIG then you have no choice

6. yep

7. tried it, just doesnt work for me

Apollorx7 04-19-2005 06:23 PM

Another one I'd add would be disconecting the headlight motors so that they stay down and light goes through the flasher glass things ion the bumber.

And I think the e fan is only bad if done wrong. But that just mho

Rob x-7 04-19-2005 06:44 PM

the electric fan thing is debateable because of the charging system on a FC, that taurus fan for example can spike at 80amps and runs at 40amps
