Hey there, i got a GXL and i have a problem with backfiring
let me explain, it don't backfire if you drive normal, as soon as i go over 6000 RPM and let of the gas, it pops . i searched on this, and all i found is, that either the car backfires all the time, or never well my car only backfires when i let off the gas in high RPM let me know how to solve this, because i live next to a trooper lol\ thanks Snoxxy |
my 87 gxl does the same thing. i'm not a pro or anything but it sounds like the popping noise might be afterburn i.e. unburnt fuel in the exhaust attributed to running rich.

Yep...mine does the same thing, only after I adjusted the TPS, it calmed down a little bit. Still pops though (maybe cause my cats are rotting?,lol)...

i heard sometimes it's a cracked afterburn pipe. they are like 30 dollars or you could just go and get an safc to fix the problem

what is an "afterburn pipe?"

A bad of poorly adjusted dashpot can cause that. Download a Factory Service Manual if you dont know what or where it is.
