Helloo all! My name is Michael, and I am about to get my first car. One that I am currently looking into is an RX-7 GTU.
How good are the automatic transmissions in the RX-7s? I am refrring specifcally to an RX-7 GTU that I may be picking up. The only reason why I am getting it is because I am getting it for next to nothing. Also, what axles did these cars come with? Limited slip? What gear ratio? I realize that it is not going to be as cool as a https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683473.gif , but the price is very good considering that my budget is also next to nothing and I can't quite yet drive stick, outside of the crashbox in my father's old '58 Chevy. Thank You for any help that you can provide. -Michael https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif |
The auto trannies are fine for a daily beater, I know my buddy blew his out on his '90 GXL..but that was at 100K+miles and some fairly hard shifting...
...as for your other questions, the GTU has an LSD, and a 4.11 Final. |
Thanks alot man. This car that I am getting only has 70k on it, so I assume it will be good. Thank God it has an LSD. If I decide to gun it once in a while I don't want to be peg-legged.
Would you happen to know if the trans is electronically controlled? |
my older rx-7 has had the auto transmission rebuilt twice with 150K on it. YOU DO NOT WANT AN AUTO! realize rotaries have no low end torque. even with my turbo, i have to slip the clutch at 2.5K for a decent launch. with an auto, you will launch at 750 rpm and no torque what so ever...sloooooowwww. you can't peel out, not even with a power brake launch. my auto N/A drove me to get a turbo. trust me, i had an auto rx-7 for 5 years, and i dont know how i stood it. you want speed and power, auto is not the way to go.

I was going to do a conversion but the car is a great car and a daily beater. When i blow this trany ima put a manual for like $150 plus labour which is included so im not hating. The car runs fine so im leaving it like that. Im beating hondaz acuras and some vw with my auto doing 120mph and they dont catch up that quick so having an auto is kewl but it will make u go insane. the thing is that people dont really see many rx7 so when they do see one they want to see what it has. A t2 is a great way to represent and getting beat by a ass dragger with a fart can makes u very sad and leads u on the enlightneened journy of a T2. jazerx7 |
