iight so i have been bragging that i was gonna do the conversion over spring break and nuffin happened. I had the money saved and my car was out of commmision so i had to spend $320 just to get it started (including a tool set..car was flooded).. so after i finish paying off my insurance i will get it done for $150 .. its cheap though but i really dont have money.. SO ONTO THE QUESTIONS
1. ) WHen i do the conversion i have to add that new pedal for the clutch is that hard. I will have to cut some of the metal to put the pedal in?? 2.) I have to add the clutch resovior into my car. IN the manual FCs it is located on the right hand side towards the firewall. On my FC there is a vacant spot so it will fit so do i have to run any lines?? 3.) when buying parts now for my car like the complete exhaust from racing beat do i have to get the presilencer for the manual or the A/T?? Things like this confuse me and i dont know if should buy parts for a A/T or a M/T becuase the car was once auto. So i know the engine is not different but they have different starters and presilencers what other things differ.. Do i have to change all of these things when i convert it or am i just too paranoid. My boy didnt mention none of this to me so im assuming its okay then. Just want to double check. By the way he is giving me the tranny, counter weights, flywheels plus the labor for $150..... and ima sell my tranny to his boy for $100 for his automatic rx4 conversion.... I did this with a friend once. All the pedal stuff etc. was pretty easy.
The hard part that made us give up and scrap the car ($0 budget) was the mounting points on the chassis for the tranny cross brace were different. It is do-able for sure, especially if you have access to a hoist instead of lying on a freezing cold floor in winter. You will need that from a donor car. The body of your car is set up, just the pedal set isnt Auto and manual cars have different crossmembers and mounting points for the crossmembers, so if you do a 100% swap you now buy parts for a manual car. If you plan on doing some assbackwords swap then dont bother, the car may never run again at that point when you give up half way in between. |
nah i can get all the stuff. Im asking about like parts for my car. When ordering this such as presilencers, starters etc do i buy them for a maunal tranny or an automatic . Does anyone get what i mean.??

I got what you meant, and I answered it.
Once again- exaust will be for a manual as long as you swap in the correct crossmember. Starter will obviously be for a manual. All the other **** is usually just questions parts guys ask you because the computer asks them to enter it. All the non tranny releated parts are the same with the exception of the radiator Even the radiator will work but you wont use the tranny cooler lines. So when you are at AutoZone and the computer asks you if its auto or manual, enter manual. If you dont believe me play around tomoroww on the computer and see for yourself. |
